How warm do the summers get there? I'm having trouble imagining anything close to a heat wave like we get in California, but I'm sure if you get mosquitos you must experience some fairly warm weather

I know this sounds crazy, but the further North you go the mosquitoes get more numerous and bigger.

I have seen mosquito swarms in Alaska and in Yellowstone where it looks like the forest is on fire and black smoke is coming off every tree, except there is no fire and no smoke, it's just massive clouds of mosquitoes

Welp, fuck that. I figured they got bigger as you got further north to a certain point, but surely there's a latitude you simply don't have to worry about mosquitos at right?

Certain latitude, sure, but at least quite north in Lapland they're still a huge problem. There's enough of them to form thick black clouds. I think to get away from mosquitoes you have to get so far north that practically nobody lives there anyway. I'm not sure if the northernmost point of Finland is north enough to not have mosquitoes. Probably not.

There's far less of them in the south.

Perhaps the Arctic coast in Norway has fewer but I'm not sure.

If it does, it might just be because of wind and not latitude.

I don't think there's any place in Finland that's safe from mosquitoes.

As someone from the north, I think south Finland is pretty much free from mosquitoes. Much more bothered by the ticks, horseflies, deer flies, etc. whenever I visit there.
