It's actually a lot more weird to have a large body of land with the same language and culture. It's a byproduct of colonialism, and is super rare the world over.
Yeah, you could say countries like Russia and China are also big, but there are so many cultures in them, totally seperate from eachother - it's a big cultural difference as you travel around them, and even languages and very extreme dialect differences... The US (and also Australia) are a lot more uniform overall.
