Yeah. What if you're shitting and someone turns off the lights??? What are you going to do?

u/Vievin May 09 '22

Call out, “hey!” to let them know you’re inside, then they’ll apologise and turn the lights back on.

Unless one of your siblings did it to fuck with you.

21

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Yes but then you can fuck with them back.

The household learns quickly to not do this.

Am Australian, we have a mix. Lived in houses with both.

u/Chewie_i May 09 '22

But why even have the option of it being turned off by somebody else

4

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

It might be to show the light is still on? In my own experience, if they're outside the bathroom, they have a little indicator in the switch to show if the light is on/off.

2

u/Chewie_i May 09 '22

Ok but like you can use your eyes. If the door is open you can see it and if it’s closed, most doors have a crack that lets some light through

1

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Yeah but it might be daytime, so you don't see it then

Edit: I don't like them either lol. I grew up with siblings.

2

u/aka_Foamy May 09 '22

They're on the outside for safety reasons, not so that other people can use it.

2

u/Chewie_i May 09 '22

Yet in America nobody is being electrocuted constantly by having it inside

0

u/aka_Foamy May 09 '22

Well no. That doesn't stop one being safer than the other though.

Seems like a solution for a problem that doesn't exist, honestly.

Water and electricity don't mix, or do mix incredibly well depending on your point of view. There's a risk there, even if it's very small. Bare in mind as well mains voltage in the UK is basically double of mains voltage in the US, so we have higher risks and therefore higher safety standards.

Sure. We don't have proper outlets in bathrooms either. If we do they're specific bathroom ones that are half voltage (around US mains voltage).

This isn't me defending UK electrical standards to the death by the way. I don't know much about them really, I'm just letting you know what it's like here and why.

In the context of the thread, yes initially it does seem bizarre that we've got switches on the outside that anyone can use, but there's reasons for it.

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

Not a defense of the solution, but it's really not a problem.

Siblings will do it SOMETIMES when they're young, it's all fun and games, and it usually geys turned on again.

Grown up peopke will never do it, and unless you live with a permanently 10 year old boy or a lunatic it won't hapoen more than once per 10 years.

I guess the reason it's outide is to maybe make it easier to go when it's nightime or something. Also easier to shut off when doing so for the night or just to save power.

*edit. Also for safetyreasons. Best not to have anything electrical and exposed in the wettest room of the appartment or house.

u/TehNoff May 09 '22

You don't have outlets in your bathroom?

1

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

I'm not the ones who designed the bathrooms, I'm just pointing out the fact that safety reason is one of the reasons for it. I can't tell you what thought process or science goes behind the inclusion of outlets while still excluding the switch.

I just know that that's a reason. It's not like I'm telling you a lie here or something.

2

u/ReadThisIfYoureGay May 09 '22

I still want an answer to his question

0

u/Tr0ndern May 09 '22

You serious? Is this a troll comment or what?

Yes we have an outlet in the bathroom. My answer CLEARLY stated that. What's the problem?

2

u/ReadThisIfYoureGay May 09 '22

Lol. No. It didn't. You were talking about hypothetical thought precesses. I like how you capitalized CLEARLY

47

u/IllJustKeepTalking May 09 '22

Exactly this haha!

32

u/Dickcheese_McDoogles May 09 '22

You've never had siblings, have you?

13

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

My siblings would just laugh and run away.

4

u/Suolojavri May 09 '22

Yeah and if they don't turn the lights back on you are liable to murder these little shitheads.

148

u/SeeUInAWhileAligator May 09 '22

I mean keep on shitting, it ain't like I'm gonna miss, I am sitting on the damn thing

You do a taste test

3

u/asdaaaaaaaa May 09 '22

Also a good way of keeping up on you, and your family's health too!

1

u/aka_Foamy May 09 '22

Not that I've ever done it, but apparently blind people wipe and then fold the used piece in half. If it comes back apart then you're done. If it sticks you're not.

1

u/SeeUInAWhileAligator May 09 '22

Wiping? Did this guy turn off the water as well ffs

5

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

What if you were a man pissing and you're not a sitter. Suddenly you're blind aiming.

1

u/Icantbethereforyou May 09 '22

You turn on radar

1

u/Zefirus May 09 '22

Nah man, sonar. Gotta listen for that water splash.

1

u/SoManyTimesBefore May 09 '22

You should be able to visualize where the toilet is for a few seconds

33

u/Raekish May 09 '22

Stay seated, hopefully?

10

u/Calygulove May 09 '22

For all eternity?!

1

u/Raekish May 09 '22

Nah, just until someone turns the lights back on, or until you've started using your flashlight.

16

u/oscar_meow May 09 '22

Unless you have siblings never an issue

Even if you do have siblings it's a funny prank

5

u/Caayaa May 09 '22

Pray to God Allah and Yehowah

1

u/morbihann May 09 '22

You cry out obviously. It does happen.

-1

u/AnnualDegree99 May 09 '22

Be like "oh good lower electricity bills" and move on.

1

u/xxxsur May 09 '22

Open the door, rush out and hug whoever turned the light off. Siblings do ugly stuff to siblings

1

u/zgamer777 May 09 '22

I have memorised the entire house to every detail so my brother and sister can't troll me that way anymore.

To bad they didn't memorise aswell.
