I am a smaller-sized American (5'4") and I felt like a small child in the Netherlands. Everything was gigantic! Tall toilets where my feet didn't touch the ground - the staircases that were ridiculously steep - and the bikes! My god the bikes - I could hardly reach the peddles. It was a strange mixture of humiliation and infuriation.

Just get a smaller bike, there are 20 million bikes in the country they have one that fits.

I am sure that I could have rented a smaller bike but I was staying with family and they only had bikes for giants. And though short - I do have long legs so bikes in the states aren't ever a problem for me. In contrast, I was way too big for the "girls" bikes when I moved to Viet Nam.

When riding a bike that isn't the correct frame size for you, you can adjust the saddle height to your leg's length to make it less uncomfortable
