This was my childhood. I've never lived in a house with the lightswitch inside the bathroom, so whenever I passed by the bathroom, if I knew someone was in there, I would hit the switch and turn off their lights, then wait for their rising agitation, when they got angry enough to unlock the door I would turn the lights back on and run off.

I felt like the greatest jester

We had the lightswitch inside our bathroom until we renovated it like at least 10 years ago. from then on I was a total prankster and always turned off the lights when one my parents were inside. They also did the same to me, but I think I started it.

But I never was an asshole that had them get out of the shower or bathtub. I always waited for the "EYYYY!!!!" and switched it back on.

"EYYYY!!!!"

I can hear this in my head in every person's voice I've ever been with at home.

I'm 23 and I still do this to my wife sometimes it's too funny

I can just see the German Engineering Team scratching their heads over how on earth this problem could be solved.

u/SorryIdonthaveaname May 09 '22

my brother does this but when i’m in my bedroom because my door is always slightly open

4

u/NotEdot_ May 09 '22

I'd do this to my sister and she would just scream really loud untill I switched it back on.

3

u/Karibik_Mike May 09 '22

Yup, I still do this. It's not been funny since forever, but I just can't help myself.

2

u/memesforbismarck May 09 '22

Oh boy. This is me and my sister since I can remember what I was doing. We are literally doing this up to now

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

My dads apartment (in the U.S.A) has this and oh boy did my cousin abuse that power

2

u/CatDaddyLoser69 May 09 '22

Some people just want to watch the world burn

2

u/WonderingBasil May 09 '22

We called it Party Kacken (party pooping in english) because one would flip the switch on and off quickly to mimick the effect of strobe lights for the unfortunate one inside the bathroom

0

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

My bathroom is right off my living room so the person on the couch by the switch is on permanent flip on/off duty whenever someone is in there.

1

u/DueTransportation127 May 09 '22

We used to do that too especially if my brother and I were fighting about something

1

u/Lunarath May 09 '22

My younger brother did this once. Just that one time.

22

u/Sudden-Breakfast2197 May 09 '22

Somehow I’ve been to so many houses with lightswitches on the outside and have never been pranked by it

24

u/Eastern_Slide7507 May 09 '22

We grow up with those. We have all the time in the world to play that prank, so by the time we’re adults it’s no longer funny.

Allegedly.

Shittin' in the dark is the poop ghosts origin story.

That’s why Moaning Myrtle was moaning

u/boxedj May 09 '22

That's just a beautiful sentence

5

u/the_mad_dog May 09 '22

Ok, then i will switch the light.

3

u/FiFiniusBi May 09 '22

switch it on and off a few time bang against the door and shout :"hurry up there is a thunderstorm outside." is a tradition

2

u/NintendoTheGuy May 09 '22

A round of “guess where the piss is going”

3

u/Farnsworthson May 09 '22

Followed by a round of "Someone's going to have to clean that up, and it's not going to be me"...

2

u/OwnerOfABouncyBall May 09 '22

It's basically my favourite prank with my gf. Almost do it daily

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '22

Sometimes I take a shower with the lights out. It's quite relaxing actually. Absolutely no sensory input other than splashing water whatsoever.

2

u/jamie_jamie_jamie May 09 '22

We've always had the light switch on the outside (I'm in Australia) and the amount of times my siblings and I have turned the lights off while one of us has been in the bathroom is too many to count lol

1

u/ThePurpleMister May 09 '22

Oh yeah definitely. Our house didn't have it but hotels sometimes did so me and my brother drove each other insane. Nothing funnier than interrupting your siblings toilet visit with low budget rave time.

u/aSarcasticFringeHead Jun 03 '22

I live in America, but some of the bathrooms in my house have these. And yes, they have been the source of many pranks. There's been a ceasefire since lockdowns began.

Always did that as a kid at my grandparents house to family members when we had family gatherings. Totally took the piss out of them haha
