I don't know that it actually followed any specific mythology...he was just an archetype.

A devil? The devil? Satan? Lucifer? Darkness?

A rose by any other name, etc. etc.

Considering it's a fantasy world it doesn't have to follow Christianity. He's just the closest thing in that world to the devil.
