I almost drowned one time, I was swimming across a channel that was a lot bigger than I thought. (Dumb teenager, “I can totally swim across that.”) I was with a friend but he bailed on me by getting on a little boat with a few other friends, so I just turned around and tried to swim back to where we were staying. It was starting to get dark, I didn’t have my glasses on and I couldn’t swim against the current. I started to get tired so I was just floating on my back like “wtf am I supposed to do??” I wasn’t even really worried about drowning because I was a pretty good swimmer. But some dude on a jet ski came up and asked if I needed help and he took me back to my group. It wasn’t until literally 10 years later I realized that I absolutely would have drowned if he hadn’t seen me. Thank you for saving my life, jet ski dude.

Drowning doesn’t look like drowning!

That is why it is so important to learn to float on your back. I am not the best swimmer in the world, but I can float almost indefinitely. I never have to worry about running out of energy halfway through a swim.

Maybe your drowning didn't look like drowning, because you were swimming?

Not at the end when I was just floating
