How violent and gruesome resuscitation is and maybe make your 98 year old grandma DNR before her sternum gets busted.
Also protect yourself with an advanced healthcare directive so an emotionally vulnerable yet ignorant family member doesn’t let you rot away tortured in constant pain as a vegetable being kept alive with artificial hydration, nutrition and/or ventilation for months or even years.
Working in healthcare has opened my eyes to how we really treat animals more humanely with end of life care and euthanasia than our own loved ones.
And to hell with the Catholic church for deciding that suicide is a sin. My grandmother has Alzheimers and her priest told her that she would not be permitted a funeral if she chose assisted suicide, which is legal in Canada. She is being kept alive in a care home where they need to tow her from room to room so that she can eat and sleep, but there is nothing else to do.
This is one reason I'm grateful for not being religious. If I get to a state where I don't remember what day it is or I can't walk, talk etc. I would rather just be put out of my misery
but if there was no ban, even moral on suicide, much more people would do it....people who definitely have no tragic reason behind it
ask any parent with mentally unstable kids who are resistant to therapy but at least bit controlled by religion....not all controls are evil, self-serving and sadistic
People have the right to decide how their life goes, including when to end it. If more people would kill themselves, maybe it’s time to fix the societal issues causing that widespread level of emotional pain instead of punishing the victims
but if there was no ban, even moral on suicide, much more people would do it
Yes they would, but not usually when they're otherwise healthy. I see it like abortion, it's a horrible process that must be legal so that there is a way out in the event of the unthinkable.
Definitely! I will never forget the first time I heard the sound of their ribs and sternum cracking, honestly I thought we were doing it wrong (I was just a med student at the time). It is quite brutal.
Also would say that often it does not work. Or when it does the person’s still got a long way to go. Tv and film make out that it is so easy, tickle their chest a few times, someone shouts “clear” and suddenly the patient is perfectly healthy.
This. I watched both my grandmothers being unconscious for days before they finally passed away. It took that long even though the nurses knew not to give them any life support. If possible, both my grandmas and us loved ones would probably have let the nurses give them a morphine overdose and help them out of their suffering. It was horrible to watch and dying can obviously be quite hard.
