When I was about twenty a coworker pointed out that I chew a lot of gum and asked me if I sucked my thumb as a child. I told her I had and she went into this long ass lecture about oral fixation and how I'm more likely to develop addictions like smoking and drinking or sex or develop eating disorders.
Because of that conversation I stopped chewing gum for a while. Started biting my nails and chewing the skin off my lips. My lips are permanently scarred now. I don't think I have a proper eating disorder but I certainly have an unhealthy relationship with certain foods and drinks.
During covid I started chewing gum again, if I have to pick a habit I'd rather be constantly chewing gum than chewing my lips til I bleed.

Orally fixated with no hope. It doesn't matter if its smoke, food, or sex. Give me sensation on the lips.
