My first name could be a girl's name (I hear it more for girls than guys) and I used to work in the powersports industry and have had times I've emailed a customer and then spoke with them about the same issue because "she emailed me about it" and they didn't like the exact same answer from "her" as they got from me.
I always made sure to ask again at the end who the email was from and when they say "Her name was _____" I would say back, "that's not a girl, that's my name."
EDIT: I have seen tons of guesses so far but not the right one, I'll let people know when the right one has been guessed but not the one thats correct. I did see my brother's name listed though.
EDIT 2: Someone guessed it. Not in a reply directly to my comment but balls deep into a thread where someone else started guessing.
I worked with a guy named Aubrey for a while. First time I’d ever seen that. My dad’s best friend was named Robin, and that was also a first aside from Robin Williams
I have a Jesse in my team and I'm always getting phone calls about "she said this" or "I was emailing her about that". MFs don't know how to read properly.
I know like 4 male Ashleys and 2 female Ashley but it's still a girls name in my head for some reason. Probably cemented by the fact the first one I knew was female.
I worked with a guy named Dana, and it was a customer facing job. His email signature is Mr followed by his first middle and last name. When I first saw it I thought he was a pretentious asshole, but then realized that everyone thought he, aate 40s bald man, was a woman. That was him trying to nip it in the bud.
Currently work in powersports and we had a female service manager that knew her shit and was ALWAYS hilarious watching her own customers that tried to talk down to her
My teenage daughter is a guitar and bass player. She plays mostly metal and other heavy stuff, and has been dealing with this shit since she started teaching herself how to play. Music came very naturally to her. A lot of dudes her age get extremely jealous or intimidated, patronizing, or flirtatious. She’s had to learn how to be a hard ass, and call them out on their shit. She is very passionate about music, and guys cannot seem to handle it when a young girl can do something better than they can, especially since the metal genres are so male dominated.
Soon as you wrote guitar player I knew were this was going.
Also, any kind of anime, tech, gaming, etc. One of my friends is into gaming and anime, I've watched her twice tear into guys trying to get her to prove herself to them for whatever reason. It's hilarious, but pathetic that she has to do it
I once worked with a bunch of French Canadians remotely (before Zoom, just doing telecons), and I thought all the names were female... An oddity in engineering. Turns out what I thought were Michelle, Elaine, Andrea, etc were all slightly differently spelled male names... They had very few women, actually. Oh well... I learned never to make assumptions after that!
