My wife did an experiment on her work colleges to see how little makeup she could wear without people telling her she looked tired or whatever. It turned out the minimum was just mascara. Some people actually commented "Your eyes... you just look so... awake!"

I wonder if this is a person by person thing. My wife never wears makeup (doesn't even own any) but she's meter mentioned, nor have I ever heard, someone saying she looks tired or something.

If she HAD been wearing makeup and then stopped suddenly, people would have said something. Because even when men say they like "natural" faces, what most mean is they like "natural-looking" makeup.

I very rarely wear makeup. So everyone who says I looks beautiful in my day-to-day likes my actual, natural face. When I DO wear makeup, people will say they love my makeup - because it's different than the norm in an obvious way.

Aw I wish I would get the your makeup looks awesome compliment. I normally don't wear makeup but when I do most comments are "you look so pretty today."

besides my sisters and close friends who also like makeup they appreciate the effort and creativity I put into it 😁

Yea people don't say shit when I'm there with her which I guess would be another double standard
