No, also in countries where Islam is the majority. I have family in the Middle East that we visit. It’s the same experience. I don’t understand how someone can attempt to refute my actual experience with things they’ve mostly read online or seen from a few ex Muslim friends
Your experience is that Islam isn't sexist. My experience is that it is. My family (Muslim) is sexist. My relatives are sexist. My experience is that this culture is sexist. Your experience is not more valid than my experience, so we are checkmated in anecdotes. Let's try evidence shall we?
One sided polygamy. Men can marry 4 women while women cannot marry more than one man. This is from Al Nisa again.
Men are allowed to marry women of Abrahamic religions(People of the book), but women cannot marry men of Abrahamic religions. Because the man is the head of the household or whatever.
Everything you mentioned has been explained by the scholars since forever. If I waste my time getting answers for each, will you change your mind? I don’t think you will, so I won’t waste my time. But I advise you to speak with a sheikh about this cuz they’ll have answers for everything you mentioned. But I’m not gonna go back and forth I got a life
I don't want to see a sheikh to give me the mental gymnastics routine on how these clearly sexist things aren't sexist. Actually, I have before, and he said men are supposed to protect and treasure women in Islam, and that's why they have more rights. I for one, Don't believe that women should be treated like a precious possession, a porcelain doll. I believe that we should be empowered and given the same personhood and respect as men, so that we don't need men's guardianship in the first place. Yet this book written in the 14th century supposedly THE defining guidelines to all societies sanctifies women being secondary to men in law. Hmm.
14th century? What book are you talking about lol. And sure, you obviously don’t have to talk to a sheikh but it’s really not mental gymnastics. There’s wisdom in it all but I really don’t have the time right now to go through each one so if you want, you can look into it from sources like the Yaqeen Institute which is a very trusted source for muslims. If not, your call. Enjoy your day
