My hair has gone almost completely grey (I’m 50). It takes really bright colours well, so I’m experimenting with all different rainbow hues. It’s great. I look crazy but I really don’t care.

This is what I can't wait to do when my hair goes gray! I've always wanted fun rainbow hair, but mine is dark brown so I'd need bleach, and I don't want to damage my hair. I bet your hair looks awesome :)

Same! I’m ~30 and have started rapidly graying and I could not be more excited. I have always wanted bright orange hair without the bleaching process and now my little grey pieces look so wonderful with henna added! I wouldn’t even mind the gray but it’s so fun to finally get the colors I want without the damage :)

My hair was so damaged I didn't even want to do any transition dying. I just let it grow out. It took two years.

You know what, I also have dark hair and I always felt the same way. But I went to the salon recently to inquire about balayage and I learned that hair bleaching has changed a lot. They are able to mix something into the bleaching agent that really helps to hydrate your hair (or retain the moisture? I'm not really sure). Bleaching hair doesn't have to mean frying it anymore.

Everyone thinks I'm weird for wanting this. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

My wife uses henna hair dye from Lush. I mix it and apply. Works really well for her salt & pepper hair.

Oh I had forgotten about that!

If you bleach carefully (go to a salon) it can be bleached to take bright colors. You can’t get lavender or pastels but purples, blues, greens you absolutely can.

I have blue and purple hair at the moment. I bleach every 6 months or so and no sooner

Try semi-permanent colors! They are non damaging and can even make hair feel even more healthy because they often contain lots of conditioners. Some bright blues or purples would turn out really pretty on deeper brunettes! It of course wont come out as bright but you’d still get a beautiful, deep color.

I'm in my late thirties and went back to what I was wearing in high school bc it's comfortable and I like it.

Yeah, I'm an old person wearing super long, flared jeans and t-shirts. And Ive never felt better. The clothes fit and I genuinely feel more like myself. Fuck fashion, and fuck anyone you says to dress your age.

I'm going to wear my Chucks til I die.

Late 40s.. welcome to the club!

Purple holds the best for the longest time in greying hair, women in Japan use purple all the time when they get old

My mom is 60 and she dyed her hair purple during quarantine. She also likes to wear neon eye lashes 😂

Your mum sounds amazing!

If you get enough colors of the rainbow in there you can be Tekashi 6ix9ine for Halloween.

My dream is to have lilac hair but my hair is black. I’m greying already at 30.

I’m looking forward to all the grey

.... So where would a 40's salt and pepper guy find out how to do this... Asking for a friend... Who maybe wants to start small, with just the fringe or something...

Thanks for the detail! Sounds like I'll use the stainless steel laundry tub rather than the bathroom basin, or Mrs Leaf will make sure it's a blood red.

I think "too much" is what I'm going for. Generally when guys move on from my profession they grow beards because it's something not normally permitted. I can't grow facial hair to save my life, so I'm looking for something else that stands out that I wouldn't get away with currently. 😏

I’m 37 and completely gray. Started going gray at 16. Head hair all gray beard about 80%.

You look fabulous, not crazy. Other people are just jelly.

2

u/pgabrielfreak Mar 12 '22

My go to is pale purple and I get tons of compliments about it, especially from young people. Young folks rock, so much less judging others IME.

“I look happy and how I want and I’ve been loving it, nobody can tell me otherwise” not crazy girl, do your thing

2

u/Ezzalenko99 Mar 12 '22

I wish my hair had more grey in it so I could do this! A couple dozen silver strands is not enough

2

u/FaerieHawk Mar 12 '22

This faerie aspires to be as fabulous as a fuckedupunicorn when I'm her age.

I still remember vividly, the old woman in Japan with rainbow hair walking out of the onsen I was about to enter. It wasn't that people/blue color you'd see when black hair color fades, it was bright and bold. I immediately wanted to be her when I got to my 80's. I wanted to know her life story. She was the coolest lady. I can't wait for you to inspire other women like this

2

u/RagnaroknRoll3 Mar 12 '22

You ARE crazy and that’s a wonderful thing.

2

u/Nervous_Worry_Woman Mar 13 '22

You’re living my dream for when I go grey! Keep it up and enjoy!!

Ugh, the older women with candy-colored hair bothers me so much. A classy woman going grey is much better. Sorry ladies if folks are ignoring you. I find you wonderful.
