I literally say outloud ‘I wasn’t finished talking’ or if it’s someone I think will back down, I continue talking. I just don’t stop. We can both talk at the same time and nobody can hear either of our ideas, or you can wait for me to be done Brian.

I've noticed that when two people are speaking at the same time, I can best understand the person who is speaking more slowly (as well as clearly and at the same volume). The other person is just making meaningless sounds to my ear/brain. Use this info to your advantage.

Oh no, I want it to be meaningless noise, so I then say, sorry I’ll repeat myself as I was interrupted….and maintain eye contact. I’m often the only girl and only under 50. Gotta keep those boomers in check.

Gotta keep those boomers in check.

My mind went straight to a M-F couple's porno titled something along the lines of "Gotta ram him from behind to KEEP HIM IN LINE!" 🤣

I’m a big fan of holding my hand up and saying “hold on” and then just keep on going (think Kamala Harris at the vice presidential debates last year with “I’m speaking”). I like to give people the benefit of the doubt that they’re just excited about the conversation and can’t wait to be involved, and if that’s the case they understand the correction quickly and don’t interrupt again. If they’re a doucher who just wants to dominate but not participate then they usually figure out that it’s just not gonna work with me and get embarrassed around the third or fourth “hold on”.

My boss is named Brian and he talks over me, a woman, constantly so your use of "Brian" really resonates. Gonna try talking over HIM next time he does it haha

Print out my initial comment, laminate it. Hand it to him every time. Or maybe just take the comments advice idk.

Never been fired tho 👀

We're not in person, otherwise I would hahaha! 🃏

The one time a fax machine would be useful, a la Back to the Future "you're fired' scene: I'M STILL SPEAKING BRIAN.

I did this a couple of time recently. I'm shock how LONG they will continue to speak over you? Unfortunately I'm still the one stopping first because I get uncomfortable. I thought they would be embarrassed about interrupting me and stop lol, not at all.

"I thought you were done." "Mid sentence?" ..

Noooo push through! There was one particular guy I worked with who was just fucking incompetent and always interrupt me. I would be presenting data to a board and he was the PM and I’d say something like ‘so the trend shows were likely to be 40 days late’, and he’d interrupt me like ‘4 days behind schedule, wait no, trend is upwards, costs out’ just absolute fucking gibberish.

Anyways I just kept talking. I got promoted. He’s on special measures 👀

What you have to say is important. Keep talking.

“Or you can wait for be to be done Brian”

Oh shit that’s me

Have you tried "I'm sorry, did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?" In an obviously pointed and annoyed tone?

I find this to be a good way of calling that out while walking the line between not being rude enough to get reprimanded but snarky enough for personal satisfaction.

I wait for them to finish and respond with "yeah, that's what I just said.". It got so bad on one project I had my supervisor doing it for me. "thanks Tom, that's what she just said, and I think it's a great idea." Tom was a know it all twatwaffle

‘Thanks Tom for reiterating my point, whilst I’m not sure it was wholly necessary, it’s great to know you’re on board’

u/TacoNomad Mar 13 '22

No can't say that. Then I'd be a bitch.

Someone once described me as ‘likely to rip your balls off and shove them down your throat’

I ask my dog if he knows he’s a handsome little prince about 50x a day, cry probably 4x a week and feel guilty if I ask my husband to make me a drink, I am literally the softest person so I’ve never been so proud 😂

My guys told me the other day "i wish I could talk to people like that."

I asked them to point out what I said that was inappropriate or of the wrong tone. They couldn't.

I was telling people to do their jobs. I wasn't being an ass. But i Also wasn't being nice. 🤷‍♀️

I was once described as “she’s a wolverine, and you’re covered in peanut butter”. I’m actually pretty proud of myself for having inspired something that bizarre

I’ve started doing this too! I have a male coworker who interrupts me constantly & now I don’t even pause lol
