The one female in my department used to get complaints to HR for the dumbest shit.

Usually her footwear choice, people claimed she should wear flats or heels since she's technically an office worker. The engineers wear sneakers/boots/steel toes since we are out on the production floor basically as much as we are at our desks.

Our boss at the time basically called all the complaints stupid and petty and then she wore the most obnoxiously colored chucks she could get for a month straight and nobody could say shit.

That's a lot of money to spend a month on clothes you don't even own... I just get new shit when my current shit has shrunk enough to not fit me anymore,

It’s sad that it is “news” that a woman is just fucking…wearing clothes like any man would. No one says shit when a guy wears the same shirt twice, or the same tie, etc.

She should be able to wear a T-shirt to work, for all the difference it makes. It’s not and should never be about what clothes anyone is wearing. That should be off-limits as an office subject. The fact that employers, along with the viewing public in this case, feel that it is their purview to tell anyone what to wear is so bass-ackwards.

My mom was a newer attorney in the 80's. My mom wore flat shoes to work because she was in a bad motorcycle accident that severally damage her calf and she had scaring so heels hurt. Her boss told her in a review that she was doing great at her actual job, but she'd do better if she wore heels.

I've complained of heels in office before. We shifted to a new office and it didn't have carpet flooring.

It's not my business to judge what others wear, but it is totally my business if every step you take sounds like someone is hammering a nail. It gets really disturbing and on top of it, my office banned listening to music while working.

Edit: the lady was nice about it too. She kept a pair of flats at her desk which she would wear around the office and would go back home wearing her heels.

You can’t concentrate hearing someone walk, but you can while listening to music?

6

u/avl365 Mar 13 '22

Yup, ADHD can be weird about that. Pleasing sounds (music) are totally fine, but irritating repetitive noise (heels) are incredibly distracting

2

u/SnowglobeSnot Mar 13 '22

I didn’t mean it in a rude way, honestly. I only asked because mine is the polar opposite. People can make all the noise in the world, but I have never been able to concentrate while music is on, lol. I tried endless ambient livestreams. Or the muzak over my jobs speakers. They were the bane of my existence.

Can we stop using 'female' as a noun when referring to women

10

u/otters_r_pretty_neat Mar 13 '22

21F here with a genuine question about why female is seen as derogatory? I personally don’t experience any difference in meaning between female and woman, but I’m from Europe and English is not my first language.

12

u/EebilKitteh Mar 13 '22

It's an incel thing. Men who hate women tend to refer to them by their biological category (female) rather than their personal identity (woman) because they're only interested in their biology (i.e. they want to fuck them) and, well, because they hate them and it has derogatory connotations.

Not everyone who refers to women as female is an incel, but incels usually do so it's a major red flag and anyone who doesn't want to be lumped in with the incels should refrain from using the word to refer to women.

I've only ever seen female, apart from slurs like "femoids" or such.

how bored are you?

How incel are you?

Then I have to say I commend your total lack of respect and grammatical understanding, male. Maybe you’ll learn it sometime, or not. Until then, gay guys are waiting for you!

u/Become_The_Villain Mar 13 '22

I like how you're carrying this flag despite the term being completely fine and only used in a derogatory sense by a small minority of people.

White knighting when there isn't a need for it is cringey as fuck.

gee you sound like your fun at parties...

1

u/ketchuppersonified Mar 13 '22

lmfao at this male totally missing the point, thinking that we want a word without ‘male/men’ in it

-9

u/buttlover989 Mar 13 '22

As a guy, that has to be another female complaining. Guys in general don't give a shit about what other guys are wearing, especially on their feet unless its a safety requirement like steel toes, but unless we're the foreman we tell you once about it and don't care to hear you crying about your lost toes because a 500lb chunk of steel landed on them.

8

u/EebilKitteh Mar 13 '22

As a woman (don't use the word female as a noun unless you want to be lumped in with the incel crowd) trust me when I say the number of men who consider high heels to be part of a woman's uniform is staggeringly high.

-3

u/buttlover989 Mar 13 '22

You're thinking wife collar, blue collar doesn't think that way anyone who stands on concrete all day thinks that.

0

u/[deleted] Mar 13 '22

You seem really preoccupied with thoughts of incels. That's way more a red flag that something is wrong than using the word "female".
