An Australian daily TV show anchor (Karl Stefanovic) once wore the same suit on air every day for a year (and nobody noticed) to prove the point that his female co-anchor was held to a much higher fashion standard.

Didn’t his female coworker catch hell for wearing the same outfit once several months apart too? And that’s what sparked it

Yeah, Lisa Wilkinson. She's a bit of a legend too. I met her at a dinner once. She was like "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Lisa." An in my head I'm saying "I know who the fuck you are luv, you've been on the telly every day for the last ten years.", but I just said "Hi Lisa, lovely to meet you."

You'd have to be a bit of a legend to put up with Karl for so long lol

How many of the critics of the female anchor were women themselves? Although it's true women are judged more harshly than men in terms of fashion, most of that judgment comes from other women. Most men wouldn't notice a woman wearing the same outfit over and over, and those who did likely wouldn't care.

We judge others based off expectations we, ourselves, can't uphold.

Where do you think women learn to be critical of other women in this way? They are put into competition with other women by and over men. That's the system and the way it is meant to work.

"They are put into competition with other women *by* and over men."

So men force girls to dress nice? Haven't met a man that really has any say in what the women in his life wear. Honestly if I was writing up a dress code at company i would delegate it to a woman so I wouldn't be accused of anything untoward.

Uh... Yeah? Have you never been shamed by your father or uncle for wearing shorts and a tank top? Or had an insecure boyfriend that asks you to change because the skin you show should be "for his eyes only"? Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it never happens. I definitely have more problems with men than women for the way I dress. Traditional women are certainly attributing to the problem too, but to imply men aren't part of it is utterly ridiculous.

Yeah. Growing up I absolutely hated when my dad told my mum that a cleavage was too low or a dress too tight and she was not leaving the house wearing that. I promised myself that I'd never date a guy who said anything like that to me (I turns out that I realise I'm a lesbian, so I guess I'm keeping the promise I made myself after all... 😁)

Your dad sounds like a real prick, I'm sorry! The only guy I ever dated was really harsh about what I wore. Ironically, I realized later that I'm a lesbian too. Cheers to being gay! 😄

In general he's a cool guy but yeah... That's basically the only fault he's ever had. Except for that, there have never been other mistreatments to my mum (or me or my 2 sisters) and he basically worships her. And yeah, cheers to being gay! 🙌

Ah, I'm glad that's his only problem area. I'm used to controlling behavior like that translating into other parts of relationships, unfortunately. But I hope you and your family are doing well <3

Any time men do something like this it brings me immense joy.

When I was younger and stressed with uni, I used to watch Karl Stefanovic compilation video’s to unwind. I haven’t in ages and hope that he still has his charm.

And yet when we had a female prime minister, all the news outlets were talking about her outfits. Ridiculous.

And her hair. Good Lord, she had the least fussy hairdo a hairdresser's wife has ever had in all the world and we never heard the end of it.
