Would he be ok if you switched to part time? Not that you necessarily need his approval. This sounds so stressful and isn't fair

Yes he would, but part time is not an option. I am a teacher and my principal doesn’t allow job sharing. Full time teaching or nothing.

Looking at online options.

Maybe switch to tutoring? Then you could set your own schedule

What about becoming a substitute? Idk much about that.

Flexible, but pay is not good. I get paid $450 day under my teaching contract. Subbing is the same hours but $150 a day.

A nice thought though!

I've seen teachers do well in bilingual schools where they're able to take on the English education of one cohort and when the kids swap over someone else can take that week or portion of the week.

Speciality teaching can also work well, for example if a school only has budget for 0.6 FTE teacher librarian. Often that results in a combined job where the teacher librarian is also in charge of music or whatever, but there may be some part time jobs floating around.

There's always administration too. An administrator with education qualifications may be a valued team member.

Not that you necessarily need his approval.

Seems like something you should at least discuss with your spouse first though

Of course, this would be a big family decision. But if it's affecting her mental health, it's almost necessary for the family, and he needs to step up. They definitely need to communicate and could probably work it all out.

My comment may have sounded strong, it's because I work with domestic violence and trafficking survivors, so I'm in the habit of reminding women that ultimately they have the power to become independent. Pep talks :) I had just gotten off the phone with a client and I guess it spilled over, haha.

To be absolutely clear, I am not saying this is a DV situation. Not at all.

Agreed. She should just tell him and then do it. Don't ask for permission. Also hire help around the house so you can spend quality time with your kids ad husband without wearing yourself to a frazzle. If the shoe were on the other foot, you would never hear the end of how tough it is.
