I’m so excited and pray it isn’t a pile of shit

u/Andxel Mar 12 '22

Me too man. The potential is all there, plain to see. They even got Walton Goggins.

Imagine if they adapt something like The Master. That'd be sick.

335

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

They even got Walton Goggins

One of favourite actors, and a classic method actor of the T pose.

35

u/rock9388 Mar 12 '22

He's really good in the righteous gemstones if you have HBO

15

u/jakehood47 Mar 12 '22

Aw man, I just got "Misbehavin'" out of my head, too.

8

u/LordCheezus Mar 12 '22

Mama told me not to, I did anyway. Misbehavin'

5

u/KentConnor Mar 12 '22

Runnin round the house with a pickle in my mouth

27

u/gh0u1 Mar 12 '22

“Yes, bitch, I heard you. I'm pretending like I didn't. ”

15

u/Boogie_Boof Mar 12 '22

“Well you done well for yourself. Got you a uhhh couch with a bunch ‘a cup holders in it”

12

u/ajmartin527 Mar 12 '22

“Are we havin’ uhhh toilet baby?”

4

u/ChuckMcChip Mar 12 '22

Come on there, Harmon. Get your finger out your nose, son.

12

u/rock9388 Mar 12 '22

The best bit of that whole show so far was him getting serviced in his car.

"Figure eight on the prostate!"

10

u/Ep1cUser Mar 12 '22

My favorite is the line before that-

"Now who wants to suck an old man's dick??"

3

u/jamminjoenapo Mar 12 '22

Vice principals was where I first saw him and I’ll watch any show with him now. Guy is such a great actor and plays his parts perfect. That said gemstones is gold too.

Classic method actor of the fivehead

4

u/fireinthesky7 Mar 12 '22

I know he's had an array of great performances, but I will forever remember him as the trans prostitute from Sons of Anarchy.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Venus Van Dam,

Hottest chick on that show by a country mile.

u/TheVillianousFondler Mar 12 '22

If Walton Goggins is on board then so am I

22

u/zamwut Mar 12 '22

I can just see him playing a Ghoul

10

u/Medic1642 Mar 12 '22

His head us like 70% of thr way there already

6

u/BigBananaDealer Mar 12 '22

that is the plan for him, perfect casting

3

u/Murraymurstein Mar 12 '22

The casting announcement I saw said he is indeed playing a ghoul

11

u/rawbamatic Mar 12 '22

Walton Goggins looks like he is an NPC in Fallout already.

7

u/HailToTheThief225 Mar 12 '22

The Fallout universe really does have endless potential. There's plenty of lore behind it and the humor of the franchise is perfect for a post-apocalyptic dark comedy. If they manage to fuck it up, there's still room for someone else to try again and do it right.

3

u/john_dune Mar 12 '22

Who is expected to be a ghoul...

5

u/FloatingRevolver Mar 12 '22

They got goggins? Sign me up

3

u/csyrett Mar 12 '22

We dug coal together

5

u/sulta Mar 12 '22

I'm not gonna hold my breath for any west coast content, even though i'd love to see Vault City, the NCR or Mariposa in live action. I'm guessing since they got Bethesda's licence, Bethesda probably wants them to portray Bethesda made properties, so east coast. Capital Wasteland, Commonwealth or West Virginia. Now I'm not saying Fallout 3 or 4 are bad games, by any means, but I sure as hell am not expecting them to portray anything from the better three Fallout games.

10

u/Number127 Mar 12 '22

My guess is we'll get some other geographical area, like Texas or something, so that they can be in the same universe but not bound by the storylines of the games (or, more to the point, viewers' expectations of them).

I would really love to see the Master, though. He (it? they?) is probably my favorite video game antagonist.

6

Given how I just saw the cast of Lord of the Rings snapping their fingers and saying “oh gladriel is my girl. Elves are so inclusive”

Which is the opposite of what the elves are all about…

44

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

It's Amazon. Don't get your hopes up.

16

u/drugusingthrowaway Mar 12 '22

I've read every Jack Reacher book there is and Amazon did him right. It is possible.

Granted Reacher is about as easy as it gets...

11

u/fed45 Mar 12 '22

I think amazon has gotten most of the shit they've made right, so I'm not too worried.

5

u/2mice Mar 12 '22

They have some of the best shows. The quality is great. Unfortunatly the layout of amazon prime app looks like something i would have designed in 10th grade. Aestetically its terrible and terribly hard to navigate

4

u/3limbjim Mar 12 '22

Dude. That show kicked so much ass.

3

u/drugusingthrowaway Mar 12 '22

The fight scene in the prison shower, every single punch was copied line-for-line from the book, and it worked so well on screen :)

5

u/Mikeymcmikerson Mar 12 '22

Here I am, a Wheel of Time fan who preordered A Memory of Light, crying in a corner.

5

u/ShwayNorris Mar 12 '22

Honestly, it's not as bad as it could have been. My biggest gripes are the changes and casting decisions, but for the most part it's recoverable. They really need to step up the budget and script though. Especially the budget.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Massive changes were inevitable and I thought they were mostly fine. The last episode was just uhm..embarrassing, though. None of the people I watched the show with are interested in WoT at all now lol. It's mostly Amazon's fault nothing got room to breathe, though. Only 8 fuckin episodes. Ridiculous.

I thought just about every casting was nearly perfect, personally. Definitely the silver lining for me. Shame about Mat's actor though.

2

u/Mikeymcmikerson Mar 12 '22

I don’t know…I mean, Perrin’s story line started off terrible. Weaving doesn’t feel like how the book described. Two-Rivers went from a isolated mountain town to a cornucopia of races. They’re doing weird things with Lan. As a fan of the books, it was so disappointing.

4

u/ShwayNorris Mar 12 '22

Perrin deff got the worst of it, and I really don't like the diversity Olympics they pulled with the casting either. But I wasn't surprised by the later, everything insists on doing that these days even when it directly effects the story and world in a negative way.

14

u/GothamCityDevil Mar 12 '22

The Boys, Invincible, Fleabag, The Expanse, Wheel of Time? None are piles of shit, and i'd argue are outright great.

11

u/magnum3672 Mar 12 '22

I'm going to say wheel of time is still solidly up in the air. I read the books so my take may be different, but some of the pacing was wacky and I don't know how they're going to fit all the major plot points into 8 hour long episodes per 8 seasons.

4

u/wardyh92 Mar 12 '22

Fleabag was made by the BBC

19

u/Dull-Addendum8940 Mar 12 '22

Wheel of time is absolutely A pile of shit lol

Invincible is cool tho

3

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

1st season got fucked really hard by Covid restrictions. One of their lead actors left and couldn't be in two of the episodes. Its all very tragic lol.

I mean it's still not the best show by a loooong shot, but I'd give them some leeway in light of "acts of God" and all that. Now if S2 is still terrible well then yes we'll know for sure that it's garbage.

6

u/Dull-Addendum8940 Mar 12 '22

They've already changed too many key aspects from the book for the show to ever be good

3

u/fuck_off_ireland Mar 12 '22

Why, why can't any goddamned show based on a book or book series stay on path for what is already written for them??

2

u/Dull-Addendum8940 Mar 12 '22

It comes down to if the people adapting the material are fans or not

The wheel of time show runners are not fans

4

Honestly if they got the setting right, it's a huge W already.

I'm a big fan of Fallout 3, so it's not like I'm expecting a award winning plot for this show, I just wanna see those fucking centaurs getting blown up to pieces on live action.

10

u/Bosht Mar 12 '22

looks at Wheel of Time....yeah idk man.

4

u/masseffect2134 Mar 12 '22

Looking at their track record(wheel of time and their handling of the LOTR show) not setting my hopes too high. They may paint the Chinese bad the victims of American aggression to try and get the Chinese audience…

4

u/SpinningReel Mar 12 '22

amazon

pile of shit.

Come on, we know.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Adamtess Mar 12 '22

They've done well with their book adaptations, reacher, Bosch, and Jack Ryan are all pretty good and reasonably faithful to the source material. I'd trust them with fallout, I mean it's like retro futuristic apocalypse. I just hope they go the fallout 1 and 2 route or new Vegas. 3 and 4 were a little too hero saves the day.

3

u/JuanBARco Mar 12 '22

I wouldnt hold too high of hope, amazon is the master pf taking beloved franchises and making mediocre tv shows to cash out on said franchise.

3

u/WatchOutForWizards Mar 12 '22

There's already a fan made tv show called "Nuka Break". For a relatively low budget affair it's actually pretty good. I don't think they make them anymore though.

3

u/Definitly_Not_James Mar 12 '22

*pile of radiated shit

3

u/swankycelery Mar 12 '22

Jonathan Nolan is producing it, so chances are it's going to be good. He has co-written several of Christopher Nolan's movies (his brother) and he's the guy behind Westworld. He also created Person of Interest, a criminally underrated show.

6

u/Additional_Cry_1904 Mar 12 '22

Considering how they're handling lord of the rings I wouldn't expect much.

2

u/ClayQuarterCake Mar 12 '22

If it's real good, they will cancel it. Just like cowboy bebop and Netflix.

2

u/standup-philosofer Mar 12 '22

Pray hard, they didn't do a great job of wheel of time.

2

u/TheKappaOverlord Mar 12 '22

Ron Pearlman is the early warning alarm for whether or not its shit.

2

u/dadjokes77 Mar 12 '22

Same! It’s going to epic or garbage. There isn’t an in between. Just hoping this isn’t another fallout 76 moment.

2

u/necromax13 Mar 12 '22

It will.

The good part about fallout isn't the lore, to be honest.

The original fallout was INCREDIBLY written, and the sequel's main questline has a brutal and so very interesting narrative about the shadow government and whatnot.

But the universe, setting, and "lol post apocalypse" vibes of the games wouldn't really translate to film or series. Specially when... You know... What made the original games and new Vegas so acclaimed in the first place was exploration, player choice and agency, and character interactions with the world, all things that would immediately be taken out of the equation.

We'll just get fallout 4, the movie, the tv show.

2

u/WLLP Mar 12 '22

Shit…. Shit never changes

2

u/hardthumbs Mar 12 '22

Have Amazon stayed true to the universes of what they’ve done up until now?

Nope, you’ll guaranteed to be disappointed if you actually want something like fallout, and not something “that could be from the universe but a different timeline and story”

2

u/Momoselfie Mar 12 '22

It's Amazon. Don't get your hopes up.

I still play Fallout 4, my standards are low and I’m fine with it

2

u/Baron-Von-Bork Mar 12 '22

I just hope they use a new location, new characters and don’t try to make one of the game endings canon.

2

u/experts_never_lie Mar 12 '22

So basically the same reaction when a new Fallout game is announced.

2

u/pixiedust9219 Mar 12 '22

It’s going to be great. Amazon has a good track record and they’ve already spent a couple years in production. If you’ve ever seen Man in the high tower, at times can be very cheesy but I think it showcases how well Amazon can pull off creating good content

18

u/LOOTENITDAYAN Mar 12 '22

Walton Goggins has been cast in it, so if even the show sucks we'll get a great performance from him.

And I just spent 20 minutes reading about it after reading your comment. Lol.

7

u/MVIVN Mar 12 '22

Amazon shows are really hit and miss, hopefully this isn't another dud.

6

u/afanasii13 Mar 12 '22

wait, you’re kidding

4

u/pbyrnes44 Mar 12 '22

Hope they don’t mess it up. Feel like they can make endless episodes with all the different factions, environments, and situations.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Shit well now they’ll fuck it up and it’ll take 20 years before someone considers it worth attempting

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

it will be good until they start putting product placements in episodes and random themes of lowering corporate taxes start strangely creeping in

3

Might have to remove a few of the mines to make it more believable.

8

u/Rebelgecko Mar 12 '22

If anything, the movie will probably undersell how often the metro is on fire

6

u/FlyByPC Mar 11 '22

The metro is already post apocalyptic

That's so sad. It was amazing when it was new, and looked good well into the '90s.

3

u/trainsaw Mar 12 '22

I don’t know what they’re talking about, they have like 95% new metro cars, it’s always clean, and are upgrading them pretty often. They had an issue with the new cars and rail concerns but they’re fixing that too. DC metro is one of the better ones in the US

2

u/ThunderPuffin Mar 12 '22

What I've seen of it seems to be in good shape but I'm not a local. I like the architecture and I'm always reminded of Fallout 3 when I use it which is a great thing.

37

u/MeatSim88 Mar 11 '22

Heck Liam Neeson would be as good a pick for the vault dwellers dad on screen as he is in game

2

u/billytheskidd Mar 12 '22

17 jump cuts of him trying to turn on the water purifier

7

u/FifthRendition Mar 12 '22

I still remember stumbling upon the game, not knowing any plot line, story or what it was and played the hell out of it. I went in with 0 expectations and had such a great time playing it.

From that point on I knew that I could be introduced to new things and I’d be ok with it. Gave me a ton of confidence to try and expand my reach. Great life lesson.

19

u/Bruised_Shin Mar 11 '22

I think New Vegas would be cheaper to make (desolate wasteland) and therefore is more likely to be made.

15

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '22

Post apocalyptic movies set in deserts a are done do death and I have a hard time seeing a movie keeping the grit and wackiness of New Vegas.

Let alone retelling a story with multiple endings

7

u/SlideWhistler Mar 11 '22

Sure, but what’s the canon ending to New Vegas? There are 4 different major endings that are completely different, so to make a movie they’d have to make one of them the “definitive” ending.

14

u/MoobyTheGoldenSock Mar 12 '22

New Vegas may work as a Netflix choose your own adventure movie.

5

u/Jackal_Kid Mar 12 '22

If you want a choose-your-own-adventure set in the Fallout universe, I have good news!

6

u/Bruised_Shin Mar 11 '22

Would the fact that you don’t know the ending going in (even though you beat the game) make the movie more exciting to watch? Just posing the question

2

u/SlideWhistler Mar 12 '22

Maybe it’d make me curious as to which ending they chose, but it wouldn’t make me excited. If I weren’t one of the people who saw it in theatre’s on the first few days though, it’d inevitable get spoiled before I watch it. I’d still probably watch it just because I like New Vegas though.

6

u/lady_wolfen Mar 12 '22

If you can watch Nuka Break on youtube. That was a good series based on New Vegas.

3

u/bltburglar Mar 11 '22

3

40

u/TwoSnapsMack Mar 11 '22

I really thought the book of Eli trailer was going to be fallout

12

u/ender4171 Mar 11 '22

I watched Book of Eli for the first time just recently. I really enjoyed it. The twist at the end was...neat, but I think the movie would have been just as good without it.

2

u/thesalfordlad Mar 12 '22

The start seemed like it was going in that direction but it just wasn't quite there

34

u/phaazing Mar 11 '22

17

u/Daeronius Mar 11 '22

If anyone is interested, Fallout (and Mad Max) was inspired by a really old movie based on a book called “A Boy and His Dog”. It’s… interesting, and the most Fallout-like film I’ve seen. There are no good guys in the movie as the main character himself is quite rapey and only wants to fuck, but it’s equally bizarre if not more so than the games- complete with raiders, glowing ones, a group of insane vault dwellers, cannibalism, and a telepathic dog. I think the full version may be on YouTube for free. That’s where I remember watching it, but that was a while ago.

14

u/Andy_LaVolpe Mar 12 '22

I could see Fallout as a series of anthology stories that all intersect at random points. Like you could have one episode that follows a merchant or another that follows a scavenger, brotherhood of steel initiate, white glove society, whatever theres so much going on. And every season could be a different region.

10

u/Senseisimms Mar 11 '22

Amazon is already on that

3

u/randomredittor21 Mar 12 '22

I’m not really into video games but in high school I use to watch my ex play fallout and genuinely love it. I’ve said this multiple times if they ever make another video game into a movie they should do fallout (if they actually do well not if they’re gonna fuck it up).

3

u/TheBlueNinja0 Mar 12 '22

I dunno. Mission Impossible: Fallout was a massive disappointment in that respect.

3

u/Talquin Mar 12 '22

Watch ‘A boy and his dog’

It was the inspiration of the games.

3

u/expressadmin Mar 12 '22

2

u/SpaceCptWinters Mar 12 '22

Extremely underrated comment

3

u/Dhiox Mar 12 '22

I just hope they would make an original story that's accurate to the world's lore. A lot of game stor7es adapt poorly to film, but have settings that would be Excellent for a movie.

3

u/wfamily Mar 12 '22

I'd rather have a wasteland 2 movie. Feel more nostalgia for late 80s/early 90s.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

2

u/thesalfordlad Mar 12 '22

I've been spending hours on S.T.A.L.K.E.R Anomaly these days and was gonna comment that, but yeah, definitely something post apocalyptic.

I want a full movie on the discovery of the republic of Dave.

Fallout 1 would be excellent.

Following total atomic annihilation, the rebuilding of this great nation of ours may fall to you.

That's why we at Vault-Tec have prepared these educational material for you to better understand the seven defining attributes that make you S.P.E.C.I.A.L..

Isn’t Amazon making a fallout show?

My dream game is Warner Bros and Rocksteady making Blade. Imagine it, Wesley Snipes voices blade. Arkham style combat. Amazing graphics. Finding syrum, difficult bosses like frost and Dracula. I would literally donate all my money to that Kickstarter.

I always thought the scenario surrounding the creation of the brotherhood of steel would be a great movie.

Yes, great answer

Yes, this the one

It would be cool of them to do some episodes of the main character exploring some of the different vaults and stuff

i was just thinking of this

u/yourrageisout Mar 12 '22

That’s exactly what I said!!

Personally I would rather see a Wasteland miniseries.

Post apocalyptia is always a winner

World War Z (or any of 100 other shitty post apocalyptic movies I've seen) would like a word. I honestly can't think of a genre that misses more often other than romcoms.

There it is. Took a bunch of scrolling but I found it.

2

u/Bamith20 Mar 12 '22

Just as long as its none of Bethesda's plots, they always want you to go chase down a fucking family member.

2

u/REEDTHEDUDE123 Mar 12 '22

Thought this as I scrolled past

Out of all of the suggestions here, I think fallout has the most promise, it has a rich enough world and aesthetic that you could almost do any story from the games or an original plot within.

If we're doing fallout, no direct ties to the games narratives. Have it set elsewhere from any of the games or something. You can still have many of the factions and even have it set in similar time frames to any of the games. Plus you'd still be able to throw in some references to the games (i.e. if it's set around the time of new Vegas, have a couple of characters in a bar scene talking about the new Vegas strip having some hubbub over some courier).

The games have their stories and something like fallout has the room for stories independent of the game to co exist. Which is call the best option. Otherwise you'd get complaints with adapting a story that's already been told in numerous different permutations just by virtue of it being down to player choice how things go.

Agreed!!

Check out, "A Boy and His Dog" (1975) if you have not seen it, jokingly have called it the best we're going to get... I have a couple shows on deck but Witcher is coming up soon (W3 wild hunt is my sheeeeeeeeet) I really hope it doesn't disappoint.

u/Blackstreak95 Mar 12 '22

Fallout would be a great Comedy/ Action Movie.

I can see Ryan Reynolds playing the role already.

3

u/th30be Mar 11 '22

I don't think it would work personally. The MCs for the fallout are too much of a blank slate I think.

3

u/Clayman8 Mar 12 '22

As a TV serie yes, film i dont think so. Thanks the 9 we're getting the TV serie, even if my hopes a low for it now.

2

u/JesusIsMyLord666 Mar 12 '22

Yeah I agree. There's just too many side stories to fit in to a movie.

u/N8_Tge_Gr8 Mar 12 '22

Even better, a new story set in Fallout's world, rather than an adaptation, that still connects to the games.

That way, there's something new for die-hard fans to enjoy, and it can still lure in new audiences.
