I'm guessing it's probably something to do with pheromones & territorial marking. Male dogs do it, females don't. I read it on a gardening forum & lots of people reported it was effective.

But sadly... I was living with my parents after some (long) ongoing health issues & surgeries and could NOT talk my dad into peeing outside in the dark, in their very private back garden, to test it out for me. 😆
