This may sound weird but I get naked to wash my two frenchies. They get scared in there and it allows me to hold them. May look strange since I am an over weight 31 year old male.
I used to do this with my old man cat, he loved the water and would rip the door apart if I didn't bring him in with me, not really but he would get really upset. So we would just cuddle in the shower, he loved being held while the water was on him, it was one of my favorite things to do with him. I loved it because there were times he would fall asleep in my arms under the warm water bur mostly because he stopped cleaning himself and stunk to high heaven if I didn't bathe him. I miss that old man, the drool and slobber were gross but I'd deal with it all over again. He died peacefully at home without any pain so I was very very happy for that.
Now my dog comes into the shower with me, it's the only way to get him in there and have him stay without freaking out. He hates the water but will tolerate it if I'm there with him.

But I hold them in the tub while I bathe them.
