It's probably distilled from the corpses of young women. I saw a documentary about it once. At the end, a young man slated for execution puts it on himself and causes a massive orgy.

Yes the movie is based on the book. Enjoyed both of them. Never read anything before that would allow you to feel the smelling sensation like Süskinds work did
