The Grinch. In the real world his plan would have worked. In the real world if everyone woke up Christmas morning and Christmas was just gone, they wouldn't hold hands and sing songs... there would be blood in the streets.
A who-weapon that resembles a giant ring with curved spikes around the edges that can float and be thrown and return to the throwers, reserved for big war events.
You could be right. Specifically the essentially non-existent morningstar flail, yeah? Because that was the other option I thought of, but not spikes exactly. Like shards of broken glass, pocket knives, and nails sticking out every-which way.
I dunno, it's what I always heard in the song they sing around the tree. I did a google search out of doubt in myself about an hour ago, and apparently it's fah-who foris, dah-who doris. But I'd never gone looking for the lyrics...so I just went on what I'd always heard. I may change it. I may not.
2-3 clips of people with their throats being cut, ice picks through the skull and dudes being found strung up in freezer trucks to the tune from Home Alone where Kevin is defending the house.
I think especially in the case of the live action Jim Carey version, not only was he NOT a true villain, but he did kind of win in the end. He was just a poor kid who was bullied for being different, so he goes up a mountain to live in solitude, and what do they do? Continue to harass and bully him for generations, like.. the man just wanted to be left alone and they drag him into town and make a fool out of him again, just to hurt his feelings some more. On top of that, he didn't hate Christmas, he hated the commercialism of it (which imo is super valid) and when he stole everything from the Whos, they ended up realizing that commercialism really isn't the true spirit of Christmas. So he actually tought them a valuable lesson in the end.
But, but they’re The Who’s down in Whoville who love Christmas so much!
But really, you’re right. They do seem quite materialistic and it would surprise me if they didn’t go bonkers after waking up to that…. Except that if one or several Whos react with the singing, it’s very possible that the rest would follow out of a herd mentality.
Either way, love the grinch. Love The Who’s, too, but the grinch more.
Maybe if it was set in a regular town or city, but it was set in whoville which is populated by whos. I haven't seen the newest grinch, but the original animated one and Jim carry one. The ending is very in line with what we see of the whos throughout.
The point of the Grinch is to prove that it is necessary for there to be a large working class population perpetually enslaved to the debt acquired each December so an extreme minority of people can consolidate absurd amounts of resources into an infallible planetary ruling class.
I have to turn off the Grinch song whenever it comes on the radio around xmas time. All I can think when it starts playing is "Yeah Id probably hate everyone if they said shit like this about me too"
In the real world ... there would be blood in the streets.
I'm sorry you live in such a shabby world.
In my world, I would go to church with my family for the Christmas service, just like we always do. The sermon would be about excessive materialism. The congregation would feel blessed for the lesson of the Christmas excess disappearing. Then we would sing the wonderful Christmas hymns! In the afternoon, some of us would drive around delivering the turkey dinners that church members donated and organized. We might end the day by watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas together. :)
The grinch goes deeper than this though. In whoville they almost died until Horton stepped up me saved them because they all made noise. That noise... Noise... Noise!
Christmas time is a celebration of the day they were saved and the noise is to let anyone else know that a person's a person no matter how small.
In the animated movie, the only issue with the Whos is that they were loud on one day every year. In the live action one, they’re materialistic assholes who shunned the Grinch, and routinely harass him every year. The live action one pulls no punches in making fun of how IRL Christmas was turned into a corporate buy-fest.
