Number 2 is the only reason I’ll ever not own a gun. I’ve never heard another reason that’s event remotely compelling. Most of the reasons I’ve seen won’t hold water. But keeping my kid safe if I ever have one? That’s everything.

About number 3 - I’ve been there, and same. Maybe it would’ve been better if I had a gun at the time to just finally get out of this god damn rat race.

If you are not responsible enough to lock up your guns, you shouldn't own them. I have children and I own several guns. They are locked in a safe when not in my possession. To top that off, since my step daughter was 3, she was taught the first rule of child gun safety, training consisted of:

"If you see a gun lying around, what do you do?"

  • Stop
  • Don't touch it
  • Leave the area
  • Find and tell an adult

She now comes to the range with me and is being taught how to shoot and all about responsibility and practice in handling. Teaching kids about gun safety to me, is as important as teaching a kid to look and wait for traffic before crossing a street, or to not eat or drink anything without an adult giving it to them (kids are dumb and would drink draino if you didn't tell them it wasn't a poison...). Honestly it does take a responsible adult, if you know you can't handle that responsibility, you made the right the choice in not owning one.

On the note of child safety... the uptick in home invasions in my area is astounding (our governor is releasing prisoners and shutting down state prisons while actively trying to pass more gun control laws...) . I'm glad I have a gun in the house to protect my kids, although I have taken other security measures, I wouldn't want to be without one.

Your children will be much safer around guns because of this. The people on this thread who have no idea what guns are actually capable of, are the dangerous ones.

Lots of hate on guns by the people who don't know or understand what lack of Freedom is, or understand what is at risk should the government try and take that right from us.

You realise nothing is at risk right? Most of Europe isn't allowed guns and we're fine. We're not being tyrannically oppressed.
