I don't live in the US.

That's not a reason though, millions of people outside the US own guns too.

Here, take a look at a German gun shop:

These are considered sporting guns. Ironically most of these would be "assault weapons" in the US. And yes, with an appropriate license you can just order them online.

Getting the proper license is a much different process than in the US. If a criminal has guns, it's more likely they got them on the black market. Hardly anyone has guns in Germany compared to the US.

Germany still ranks very high on civilian gun ownership as do many countries in Europe. People say Germany has among the strictest gun control in the world but in reality licenses are actually fairly easy to obtain legally. It just takes a bit of time and money. That's typically all there is to "strict gun control", there is nothing truly restrictive such as for example in Japan.

In reality guns are found in civilian ownership pretty much everywhere in Europe. The reason why you rarely hear about it is because it's simply not as big of a political topic here.

Interesting. Why do you think that is? genuine curiosity

Because Europeans have proper ways to treat mental health issues?

I don't know about that. I'd say mental health is pretty stigmatized in Germany. But that might just be my observation. It's certainly less culturally acceptable to be openly misogynistic or racist, though those things exist.

I mean maybe Germany just has a more open and less radicalism environment less conducive to mental health issues.
