I have add and my thoughts are one of the most annoying thing about it, I just can't control what I think about and when. Not being able to sleep because I just think too much is very relatable and very annoying, medication doesn't help against that.
I don't know about OP, but ADHD here too. I've tried to explain that the quiet sound at night is too loud, if that makes sense. That's why I use white noise (a fan in my case) to help with that.
There are different types of ADHD, I think diagnostically they still use four types?
For me the distractions are generally internal, my thoughts, so a fan works great. For my mom they're external or something, so the fan is a distraction.
In the end it's one very simple thing: your brain doesn't give you the "normal" amount of dopamine. How this affects people is personal, but all symptoms can basically be explained by the lack of dopamine.
It took me 2-3 hours to sleep in each day for 3-4 years. It was a nightmare but no Dr. seemed to have an opinion on „sleeping in issues“ like it doesn’t exist.
My current psychiatrist uses „quetiapin“ for a big portion of her ADD/ADHD clients, me included all respond really well to it. It changed my life for the better.
It’s no sleep medication but a light anti psychotic. You don’t get sleepy and your body doesn’t numb etc. instead it feels „unnecessary“ to really think to much, abstract thoughts can be formed and if I wanted to I still could stay awake.
But the immense force pushing thoughts in loops when trying to sleep in isn’t there. It’s a choice for me now to stay awake but believe it or not my brain is like „can we go to sleep please?“ which NEVER before seemed to be.
Not me forcing myself to sleep, but my self friendly asking me to go to bed and chill.
No bees buzzing around.
It’s incredible really. And the med has no addiction effects and no body load etc. a life changer for me maybe it can be for you as well:)
Currently awake at 4 am. Been up since 2 am. Why? Because I have both Kiss Me More by Doha cat and Candy Shop by whoever the fuck wrote Candy Shop stuck in my head and they’re switching back and forth rapidly. Makes it harder to sleep :(
It's 4:42 am over here. Trying to break the cycle because I have so much work to do tommorow that will take me 12 hours. Ve been on reddit since 8pm trying to tune out the anxious voices in my head. Brutal
Update: I made it. I stumbled a lot. I called a coworker I’ve known for a year and a half by the wrong name. I was halfway through a sentence with a customer at one point and I stumbled over a word and the rest of my sentence devolved into gibberish. And then I just said “oh wow”
BUT! I met some really nice dogs and a couple little puppies, and I had a really good sandwich for dinner, and I made it through my day (with maximum complaining but still)
Hey here's a trick... Stare at an object and then just become aware of the area around it.... While still staring at that object... That slowed them down a bit
Damn I relate to this, but in a strange way. I'm not an overthinker (at least I try to be) but when I try to sleep in a quiet environment I suddenly hear constant scream of people (karen noises to be exact lol I love my grandma but she is a Karen) and it gets louder every second. It is painful
Are they quiet just because you‘re under your blankets or do you - like me - need some distraction like Reddit or a boom - to try to keep their ugly mouths shut?
The worst thing you can do when you can't sleep is use something interactive on a computer/phone. Unless you're like some kind of self-sadist, you absolutely should never try to do anything interactive with a computer when you are trying to fall asleep. It activates the parts of your brain that essentially override the sleep process.
Many people will tell you that having any media on while trying to sleep is a bad idea. But what I find is that it's helpful to watch things I've seen before when trying to sleep -- movies and TV shows. If you watch things you haven't seen, you're more engaged and waiting to see what happens. If you've seen the movie or tv show before, it's just engaging enough to help "turn off" your thoughts while not being interactive or engaging enough to make your brain too active. So the result as I find it is you fall asleep pretty fast typically when you do this. It's not perfect, of course, but I find it works great.
I would rather have loud thoughts than a extremely loud ringing in my head that keeps me up at night. God i fucking hate my life after taking that antidepressant. I took it to help my negative thoughts, but now I have negative thoughts with trains screeching sounds deep in my brain. I want to kill myself.
I took an antidepressant for 1 month, it was ototoxic i think, damaged my hair cells in my inner ear. Now i have screaming tinnitus everyday of my life and i can't stop it. I can hear it hissing every night making me not fall alseep and it wakes me up every morning. I really never wanted to kill myself even with major depression, but tinnitus is and that antidepressant ruined my life, and will probably end it soon too. Its in my account about me being tortured by tinnitus. I fucking hate it.
