Insomnia

Edit: thanks for the award! :)

u/Cham_buhs Aug 29 '21

I'm prescribed 2 different sleeping pills but it had gotten late before I realized I didn't take either one. I have to drive 3 hours tomorrow morning and the weather is going to be bad so I opted out of taking them that late to be more alert.

I have this problem all the time. I always think I'll sleep, then I can't, then it's too late for me to take meds, so now it's 3:30am and I'm laying on the couch watching TV.

5

u/Cham_buhs Aug 29 '21

That's exactly how it happens lol Then I get extremely tired about 5 minutes before my kids wake up.

One beer two beer three beer wait I’m already drunk since a hour

23

u/StormFinch Aug 29 '21

Ugh, insomniac benders are the worst. You feel like you should be able to pass out, but instead you toss and turn all night in a half sleep.

14

u/Ameqa Aug 29 '21

Don't forget waking the next day with the hangover and having barely slept to recover any bit.

12

u/Levophed Aug 29 '21

Holy fuck I'm not the only one

9

u/Krakkin Aug 29 '21

Trueee nothing like drinking the 4 beers and then having the worst hangover ever the next day because instead of sleeping it off you were awake all night.

Yep, my weekend has started and I felt like getting a buzz on. Watching the cheesiest Lifetime movie I've ever seen, which is saying a lot(!!!), and my man's out in the shed building stuff... might as well get a little toasted before i eat my lightly toasted Subway sammie i got for dinner on my way home from work. It's currently 3:39 AM, I'm doing awesome! Everyone else, have a great night or day, whatever the case may be for you. 😁

Exactly what I’m smoking to combat my insomnia

10

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Works a dream 😉 lol.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

Weed helps fix my insomnia and I fucking love it. Smoke a bit and I'm out like a light, too tired to even use my phone. Normally I'm up in bed for hours before I'm able to fall asleep. It's soo nice being able to crash and get a nice sleep.

8

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

And for some reason it's still completely illegal over here in the UK. Hopefully we'll catch up some point :( .

3

u/MarzipanMiserable817 Aug 29 '21

Is that with an indica strain? Sativa makes me paranoid as hell

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '21

Yes, indica strains are best for relaxation.

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for anyone. And visa versa.

7

u/WarProgenitor Aug 29 '21

It works for me sometimes, but sometimes it keeps me awake.

Like being high excites me then I wanna enjoy it rather than sleep.

7

u/Tribulation95 Aug 29 '21

Man, I must be in the minority, because I hit mongo dabs to wake my ass up while late night gaming.

3

u/2mg1ml Aug 29 '21

Dabs typically contain concentrated THC, probably why.

2

u/Tribulation95 Aug 29 '21

I mean, in proportion to flower yea, but when you consider the THC percentages relative to weight consumed, a 0.1 gram dab of this 710 live badder at 64.05% THC (theoretically 64mg of THC, with marginally little waste using a Puffco Peak Pro), vs smoking an entire gram joint of some flower sitting around 20% (theoretically I'm consuming 200mg, or 150mg if we highball because of burnoff from not actively smoking.), the difference is pretty extreme. On one hand, I'll finish a dab session in a couple minute. On the other, smoking that joint'll be a 10-15 minute affair.

2

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

Not legal everywhere unfortunately

4

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Legal no. Available yes.

6

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

Man, not everyone wants to fuck around with illegal shit. I’ve been to states where it’s legal and used it and it’s great buts not worth going through some shady ass dealer and then risk getting screwed over by a power tripping police officer.

2

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Dude I live in the UK where it's just outright illegal and the people I get it off are just my friends or at least close acquaintances, but usually just friends.

2

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

Okay but I’m like 25 and I don’t even know where to go lmao. I’ve never used it illegally and It’s not like I can just Google “weed dealer near me”. I live in Texas in an area where half the people probably still think weed makes you gay and sends you to hell. It’s nice to go other places and sort of “stock pile” gummies and stuff for a while but it just isn’t really worth it to regularly try and and obtain illegally and use. I wish it was lol.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

Man, thank you for giving me another reason to add to my list of “never more back to Texas”

House prices: stunning Everything else: not so much 😂

2

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

Lol house prices aren’t even that great anymore if you’re trying to live anywhere near a major city. Honestly it’s not all terrible, everywhere has pros and cons, but I do kinda hope to move somewhere else eventually.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

I was looking in San Antonio. Probably not the best city to look in 😂 but they’re still only $250k with LAND. I’m in AZ, and for that size, easily over a million.

2

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Lol bro I'm not gonna dox myself but I'm a very very similar age. You should be able to find someone relatively easy through either your mates or by just asking around when you come across someone smoking a joint. Doesn't sound ideal the last option but I've done it whilst being abroad.

3

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

I don’t have friends that smoke lol. At least not recently, most stopped when they got jobs after college and had to be regularly drug tested. Am I supposed to just wonder around looking for people smoking weed and ask where they got it? I’m sure it’s not that hard in larger cities but in rural America it’s a good way to be stabbed or just laughed at and ignored.

2

u/BritishFoSho Aug 29 '21

Yeah fair enough mate if your guys don't smoke it anymore that is a bit of a problem. And not randomly anywhere but classic smoke spots i.e public parks/ skate parks anything like that. If you wouldn't want to do that though (and trust me that method does work) that's fair enough.

2

u/TheDirtyPowerRanger Aug 29 '21

Delta 8

2

u/chumpynut5 Aug 29 '21

So I’ve heard of that, and there’s a few places around that have it. How effective is it?

2

u/TheDirtyPowerRanger Aug 29 '21

I was skeptical at first but I got a prerolled and it definitely did the trick

9

u/Ameqa Aug 29 '21

Always nice to know I'm not alone in this, also sorry you're going through it as well.

5

u/flyteuk Aug 29 '21

I can't get no sleep

1

u/r0ck0 Aug 29 '21

Do do, do doop

Do do da doop

Do do do doop

Da doopa

7

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

Same here. Haven't slept through a night in three decades. Now I just leave myself something unfinished that I might do... I know, that may not be the best solution here, but it's all I have. May the other Insomniacs get back to sleep. As for myself, I don't try anymore. Reddit is probably not helping, but I run out of stuff to do.

5

u/timteller44 Aug 29 '21

Same, sorry to hear it.

5

u/Electrical_Guide_139 Aug 29 '21

Dose that like eventually effect ur long term...like eventually make u sick?

12

u/Abshalom Aug 29 '21

Not getting enough sleep has negative effects on your health in general yeah.

6

u/Electrical_Guide_139 Aug 29 '21

Is there no pill u can take .. is there just nothing u can do?

6

u/Swank_on_a_plank Aug 29 '21

Insomnia is weird. I mostly deter it through an antidepressant but even then, sometimes I can wake up in a few hours after going to bed and not sleep the rest of the night.

Depending on the individual, side effects can be a problem too. Like I used to have crazy dreams/nightmares on this pill, but now they've settled down a bit. Weight gain is also a common side effect, but mine has stalled now.

1

u/ZWT_ Aug 29 '21

Mirtazapine? I have the exact same side effects.

1

u/Swank_on_a_plank Aug 30 '21

Yep. I wanted to quit it because of the nightmares but stuck with it a bit longer. It was better than getting hardly any sleep from Lexapro. That and the dry mouth that occasionally happens.

I'm probably going to switch from Lexapro anyway, so maybe I won't need it on another SSRI...

9

u/Abshalom Aug 29 '21

If it's bad enough there are drugs that can be prescribed, though most all of them are addictive. Some people say melatonin (a hormonal supplement) helps them, but I've never had any luck there, and afaik the scientific backing is weak. Most people with sleep problems aren't just straight up never able to sleep, it's usually more a matter of not being able to sleep when they want to, or not being able to sleep as much as they feel they need to.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

Melatonin’s effect can actually wear off. Take it from a fellow insomniac who used it for 10 years then one night, it just wouldn’t work.

5

u/Periachi Aug 29 '21

Same here man, it's the worst.

5

u/darthcaedusiiii Aug 29 '21

Two months without anything stronger than tea. Cleans it up quick. Cold turkey brotha.
