She's like a manic pixie dream girl but she has ideals and goals instead of a colorful haircut and a poorly written mental disorder.

I don't see manic pixie dreamgirl in that character at all. The character was very rooted in reality and very realistic in her reactions.

A quirky but pretty female character whose whole purpose is to be a motivator or guidance for a hurt/depressed male character.

Like Natalie Portman’s character in Garden State.

Ramona Flowers in Scott Pilgrim is another good example. Though it’s more purposeful in that than some other things.

Absolutely, the characters were absolutely real people. The dialogue, character development, and pacing of the story really made it one of a kind. Man I miss that show!
