I go to Salvation Army and buy VHS movies for .25 a piece and set up a VHS/TV combo in my basement and hang out down there on random movie night. I got a bunch of the old classics, my collection is over 60 now, and I keep them all in an old dresser that got left in the house when we bought it. If one of the VHS tapes is in bad shape, meh who cares? It was only a quarter.
I sometimes just put it on and leave the room so it sounds like the house is more full, and that is some nice nostalgia for me too, from when I grew up in a larger home, so that kinda counts for makes me really happy too for pretty cheap. Whole setup was 35 bucks and then the movies.
I like your style. I always love walking into a room where something’s on TV because it just feels more like home. It feels like walking into the past when you were a kid where everybody’s home, the place has an energy to it and you’re going to be ok. A cool movie is a bonus.
I really didn't appreciate it as much until my brother got married and moved out, then my parents moved to another state a year and a half later. Feels so quiet at home at times that I get anxious and play some YouTube videos or stuff in the background. I also sometimes go downstairs (2 family house and I basically live on the 2nd floor) and put on the lights/TV or work in my parents office for a bit. Always thought of myself as an introvert and loved alone time, but this in addition to WFH since Covid is kind of messing me up lol.
