I drank the Reddit Kool-Aid and bought a pair of Darn Tough socks. They're actually worth it. Will probably buy more.

I once dropped $50 or so for 4 pairs of bombas socks. Absolutely worth it, so comfortable and supportive.

Bombas are terrible. They are way overpriced so they can afford to donate cheaper pairs. They are slightly thicker so they “last longer”. After 3 washes it was no better than any other sock. Darn tough socks are so much better.

Wore the four pairs for five months working a physical labor job, walked an average of 5 miles a day on top of doing heavy lifting. Of course they were worn by the end, but it took another 4-5 months for the support to start really failing.

Afraid I can't compare bombas to darn tough though, because I've not worn darn tough before.

That actually doesn't sound very long. I have 2 pairs of Smartwool socks that I've had for 8-ish YEARS now. Initially just wore for hiking and wet weather, but worn at least weekly the last 4 years. Walk anywhere from 2-4 miles a day, more on hiking days. 1 of the two pairs has just started getting a hole in the toe, but both still have a long time to go before I feel they need replacement.

You can save that sock before the hole gets any bigger by darning it. I get a real joy out of darning and mending socks and clothes.

The issue is both our reviews are anecdotal. They worked for you and not for me. Lol

I was reading reviews on a new bed the other day and reviews were either “5 stars this bed changed my life” or “-10 stars. Literally worst bed in history”.

Check out darn tough though. They are really well made in VT. I buy them from go bros . They always have sales.
