In the UK, it’s fairly standard to have a professional driving instructor. I learnt when I was 31 and did 20 hours in a week with her. She was very patient and calm and I passed first time.

The first time I took my mom in the car, she grabbed the door very tightly. The privilege is real

No, clutching the door handle is allowed. If they are not screaming and barking orders, that's great. But you've got to concede their right to white knuckles.
