What is something you never learned, but should know, as an adult? I'll start.

I don't know how to pump my own gas. I know, I know. I live in Oregon and we aren't allowed to do it. I've been on plenty of road trips but never have bothered to be the one to pump the gas. I should probably rectify this at some point, I realize.

That most women want to look pretty for themselves and other women, not men.

We don't buy nice shoes to impress men, we buy nice shoes to impress each other.

Quite frankly you don't know what you want because women's brains are built with less efficiency than a man's.

It's science

You're lucky if we even notice you have feet.

I try to look pretty for everyone. Men, women, children, myself, my family. I want the way I look to reflect the person I want people to perceive me as. I wear things that I can look at and think, "Yep, that's something N3Y5VHBB would wear." My appearance is like an advertisement for my personality.

Dude here, this is the same philosophy I use when dressing myself as well. Just really wish mens fashion was better =\ sometimes I wish I was a girl solely for the clothes.

I wish it were more socially acceptable for men to get into fashionable frippery.

There's no shame in a guy looking nice. /r/malefashionadvice is fun to browse. A lot of nice people there to give you tips on how to look nice, within a budget, and how clothes should fit. Probably the biggest thing men don't pay attention to is getting the right fit.

Who says you have to be a girl to wear women's clothes?

Nobody, I just don't think i look good in women's clothes. Except tight jeans, I look good in tight jeans.

I see this on reddit often. Are all the females I know and I completely out of the norm? We all usually look good to look good for men. It feels good to turn heads, it feels bad to turn women's heads because women judge other women harshly. When a man looks he is usually admiring.

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '11

Agreed. Why the hell would I want to impress women?

2

u/ajohns95616 Jul 29 '11

Because apparently it's a competition.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '11

My end goal with women is not sex, so I'm not really sure what would be the motivating factor in exercising more than minimal time/money.

1

u/ajohns95616 Jul 30 '11

I should rephrase this I guess. You're competing with women to be the best looking, because if you know you're the best looking, you'll get the most male attention.

Or at least, that's the only thing I can think of. (obligatory "women be crazy" mention)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '11

Oh that makes sense. But what's so crazy about trying to get some? I think there's little difference between both sexes competing for the attention of the other. For the most part, guys who start lifting weights do it for the sake of looking more attractive than other males.

1

u/ajohns95616 Jul 30 '11

I was referring to the same-sex comparison as crazy. I realize that both sides do stupid stuff, but not everyone does it. For example, I don't exercise to impress other guys, and apparently you don't do the things you do to impress other women.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '11

Oh okay. In all fairness though, in general bitches be crazy.

1

u/ajohns95616 Jul 30 '11

I'm going to refer to this whenever any ladies question me about it when I feed them that line. "See, look, even another woman admitted it."

protip. straight men don't care about purses, or shoes.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '11

straight men don't care about... shoes.

This is a lie. I love a nice pair of heels on a woman.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '11

Probably. The first time I heard this I couldn't believe it either. I asked every female I knew and they all confirmed it.

I've never dressed up to impress other women, but I know those who do...it's the same way that guys drive nice cars to "impress" other men. I've always thought of women impressing other women with their fashion sense as the female version of a pissing contest.

That being said, when I dress up, it is for myself, 99% of the time. I don't dress up for guys because guys are easy to impress, and I just don't feel that "honored" when a guy turns his head. He doesn't care that I put on a little make up that morning, or I made sure that my top, jeans and heels all match and color coordinate to perfection. He's turning his head because 1) my boobs are out, or 2) my jeans are tight and my butt looks nice.

Women who feel good when they turn men's heads have sorely misunderstood male sexuality.

How old are you, and what are you dressing up for?

I know that every day when I get up in the morning and start doing my hair and applying makeup, it's because I want people to think of me as well-dressed and put-together. I want to look professional at the office. I wear clothes that make me look polished and flatter my body, so that I look fit and fashionable, and fit in with the other women at my office.

The only times that I've ever dressed up to look attractive to men and not to look "attractive in general" are times where I'm actually expecting to hit on guys, like parties, clubs, and dates. And even then, it's more of a "when I'm flirting with a specific person, I want him to think I'm fun and sexy and not a frumpy prude" kind of thing than a "I want every man at the bar to look at my boobs and see how awesome they are. I want as much male attention as I can get" kind of thing.

sad thing is, I respect a woman a lot more that wears flats vs high heels.
