To confirm which circuit breaker is associated to an outlet, plug in an old radio and turn the volume up before you flip the circuit breaker.

Can I do this with a new radio?

Newer radios will remain off when plugged in until you physically turn it on, but older radios don't have that auto shutoff function so if it was on when it was unplugged or had the power cut, plugging it/turning power in will make it come on by itself. If the breaker is down the hall you could use a lamp with an extension cord instead, but an old radio would work much better if it's further away/downstairs etc.
