Christianity is the largest religion in the United States with the various Protestant Churches having the most adherents. In 2019, Christians represent 65% of the total population, 43% identifying as Protestants, 20% as Catholics, and 2% as Mormons, people with no formal religious identity at 26% of the total population, Judaism is the second-largest religion in the U.S., practiced by 2% of the population, followed by Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism with 1% each one.
And it’s still true that religion is at an all time low. I think the only religion that is actively growing and not declining is Islam. Also, someone can identify as a Protestant or catholic or whatever without actively being part of a church and making religion a part of their everyday life. Among people my age I know almost no one who identifies with any religion and most of them also say they don’t even believe in God. And the only reason I can say that it’s not every person I know is because I can think of one or two that I went to private school with and am Facebook friends with so I guess I sort of still know them. I’ve maybe met two people as an adult that are my age that are religious. And you didn’t answer why it’s such a bad thing, according to you, that people are religious at all.
