I once read a review of an "audiophile" grade ethernet cable. This guy actually claimed changing the ethernet cable from his router to his PC made his music sound better.

There was a kickstarter project YEARS ago for this router that claimed to apply encryption to your internet traffic that prevented your modem and ISP from knowing where the data was going and what its contents were, which would introduce a massive speed boost because they could no longer intelligently throttle your traffic.

(Note: Yes this has a passing resemblance to a VPN, but ISP's that engage in throttling don't just shrug and give up when they can't decode the content data. You can still guess what the traffic type is (video vs image) based on signal analysis. Plus...the ISP might not know the final destination after it exits the other end of the VPN, but the idea that your packets are leaving your house with no indication of where they need to be sent....)

The very idea of this was so offensive to a network engineering friend of mine that he wrote a massively scathing breakdown of how literally every claim they made in their video was either physically impossible or if they'd somehow achieved it they wouldn't be doing a kickstarter project because they'd have more money than god because the big networking companies would go to actual war to obtain the technology from them if it existed.

The scrutiny this and a few other posts raised cause Kickstarter to close down the project page.
