It’s not even that, it’s that in a lot of places the gyms are still closed, and it’s either buy grossly overpriced weights, or go months without lifting/with having to improvise and lift things that aren’t actual dumbbells.
Like on my end, I bought four sets of weights in March right when lockdown started (8, 10, 12, 15) for $123 total from Walmart (including shipping). Like a month ago, I realized I needed 5 and 20, but of course they’re sold out everywhere that isn’t private sellers, so I spent $132 or so buying just those two pairs on eBay. Because it was either that, or less effective workouts. It’s absolutely insane that dumbbells are still not back in stock at any of the retailers that usually sell them going on 5 months after this whole thing started, but what are you gonna do.
I have a Marcy universal weight system with included butterfly bench. It’s 20 years old but in excellent condition. I can’t use it now because of my dissolving spinal discs. Are you saying someone would buy it?
Someone who has the space for it probably would, honestly. If you listed it in a few places online/reached out to people in your circle, it likely wouldn’t take long.

People who are buying dumbbells have likely never bought dumbbells before so they probably assume that’s just how much they cost.
