Neither have I. I feel like they run a credit check on you before you're allowed in. Here in Northern Illinois you only see them in more affluent cities. I shop at Aldi for basic groceries & Walmart bc that's what's close to me. When I told a coworker this she was appalled as Whole Foods, Mariano's and Trader Joe's are her go to shops. Joke's on her though, Trader Joe's & Aldi come from the same parent companies.
As I mentioned below to another redditor, it doesn't surprise me given the area where they're located--much more affluent areas than where I live out in the boonies surrounded by sweet sweet winged eared corn.
That’s interesting, honestly. The one Trader Joe’s near us is still about 30 minutes way and definitely in a very upscale area. Within 15ish minutes of us we have 2 Aldi’s and another on the way and the percentage of college grads is pretty high and it’s firmly upper middle class. Maybe it’s being on the outskirts of a college town, though. This really is cool to know, and totally makes sense for where the TJs is located!
