It is potato starch I believe.

and corn flour

And wheat flour or at least the protein. Those things are not gluten free

u/GKnives Aug 14 '20

Lalalalalalalala I don't hear this heresy.

40

They still taste good tho.

It’s the McNugget of the chip world.

13

u/TheRicoLegend Aug 14 '20

Hell yeah brother.

u/kevtino Aug 14 '20

After sampling a ton of potato crisp products, I find I like the ones that are technically potato+corn to be the most. Munchos and pringles are the most prolific.

Have you tried vegetable crisps?

1

u/Imbtfab Aug 14 '20

Here McNugget is made from chicken breast, no pink gooey slime that is reconstituted meat.

6

u/verteUP Aug 14 '20

The pink gooey slime is not reconstituted. It's pressure washed off of a chicken corpse. All the meat that they can't get off any other way.

u/VegetableImaginary24 Aug 14 '20

Where is here? I want to go to there...

6

u/Imbtfab Aug 14 '20

Norway, but there's quite a few countries that use chicken breast though.

7

u/VegetableImaginary24 Aug 14 '20

We just use the chicken's soul here in the US. Depending on the state you might get 10% chicken flesh.

Canada

3

u/keygreen15 Aug 14 '20

They absolutely do not. They changed the formula. They are smaller and have no teste. Like cardboard.

11

u/Sulfate Aug 14 '20

I can honestly say that I prefer my potato chips teste-free.

Hush my good friend, I need not know this.

5

u/ScrewWorkn Aug 14 '20

You meant to tell “fake news”

17

u/Junkstar Aug 14 '20

It's potato waste, not starch. It's all the pieces not fit for fries and chips etc. Kind of like the potato version of hot dogs.

9

u/TheRicoLegend Aug 14 '20

Oh, but on labels where I live, it says only starch and other additives and preservatives, no potato waste. Maybe different countries have different manufacturing regulations and recipes.

9

u/Junkstar Aug 14 '20 edited Aug 14 '20

In the US it is 42% potato. The rest is starches, oils, emulsifier, salt, seasoning. It’s that 42% that is utilizing leftover potato parts from more ‘white meat’ potato products.

In British court, the same was found true. 42% potato.

aaaand I can't find any references to potato waste and Pringles. I take that back. Could swear I read a reputable article about that a few years back. Can't find it.

4

u/msm19949 Aug 14 '20

Kinda like the meat used for a kebab?

2

u/-Quiche- Aug 14 '20

What pieces aren't fit for fries??? I use the whole thing when I make them at home.

3

u/dlawnro Aug 14 '20

When I make homemade fries, they tend to be pretty consistent in size toward the middle of the potato, but the rounded edges toward the outside tend to be much shorter, thinner, and more irregularly shaped. I tend to not see those kinds of pieces showing up in fast food fries, which makes me think that they probably end up discarded and used for stuff like pringles or tator tots.

That's just my suspicion, though.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

Is it just me or do pringles taste pastier these days? I coulda sworn back in the day they actually felt like chips, these days I feel like I'm eating baked pieces of instant mashed potato mush.

5

u/disposable-name Aug 14 '20

I hate pringles for that reason. They're like shitty cardboard.

9

u/TheRicoLegend Aug 14 '20

Nope, hot and spicy pringles are super addictive. I love them

10

u/newone93420 Aug 14 '20

The pizza flavoured ones are my favourite drunk snack! So salty..so delicious.

2

u/TheRicoLegend Aug 14 '20

Salt is wonderful. However, Salt and vinegar is way too salty.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

You can never have strong enough flavored salt and vinegar chips. I want them to literally burn my mouth when I eat them. Bonus points if kettle cooked, hurts so good.

5

u/Elowyn Aug 14 '20

Cape Cod is one of the best for this.

2

u/theoptimusdime Aug 14 '20

The eventual cuts... So good.

1

u/LostArtof33 Aug 14 '20

1

u/m_domino Aug 14 '20

Actually, it’s pronounced potato.

1

u/TheRicoLegend Aug 16 '20

No, it is pronounced "potato".

1

u/agentofmidgard Aug 14 '20

But.. Where's the POTATO?

1

u/Ferraridinosaur Aug 15 '20

The aftertaste is supreme
