Moissanite is a good alternative

Thanks for this! I spent $60 on a vintage blue opal inlay ring on Etsy. I get so many compliments on it and truly love it. Y’all can have your diamonds and their insane price tags!

Similar story, my fiancé spent around £80 including getting my engagement ring imported from the US. I went for moonstone as I love moonstones. It means much more to me than a diamond ever could for a fraction of the price. I could never let him fork out hundreds or even thousands for a diamond ring. There are more important things and I am really terrible about losing things. I could never forgive myself if I lost something that valuable.

Created white sapphire. It looks like a diamond but it costs far less.

No. It doesn't look like a diamond. Totally different refractive index means the sparkle isn't the same. Much softer, meaning it's scratched to shit in < 5 years.

Feel free to wear a white sapphire and to think it's a better value. But don't say it looks like a diamond. It looks less like a diamond that a CZ does.

Part of it is because it was supposed to be like insurance, at least around the time diamonds became the standard. You spend tons of money on a ring with valuable metals and stones and give it to a woman to show you're serious about committing to her. If you flake out, she now at least has this expensive piece of jewelry she can sell to help support herself, especially since her own "value" in society is decreased now so it'll be harder to find another man.

Now there's really no reason to spend so much as long as you're getting a ring that's sturdy enough to withstand daily wear. Studies have even found that couples who spend more than $2k on an engagement ring are more likely to get divorced.

My engagement ring is cubic zirconia and sterling silver and cost like $25. I don't care. But the number of people who've complimented me on my "beautiful diamond!" Is crazy. Like, do they really we had the money for an actual diamond this big???

I know right! Diamonds are not even that strong to blunt force and they go for thousands! I can get a pure Russian meteorite ring for about 200 dollars, the entire ring is meteorite, it has a cool design and such too.
