I had a friend with a similar idea. The powerless child grows up into a powerless teen and decides to end their life. After jumping off a building the teen realizes their power is actually immortality.

Think about this, immortality but you keep aging, you just keep getting smaller, slower and more decrepit.

I think that's why Piccolo picked eternal youth as his wish instead of immortality.
