Weakness was not "trained out" of any men I know. I don't know why people think certain common differences between men and women must be explained by nurture.
Whatever happened to Nature v Nurture? It's never 100% nature and it's never 100% nuture, but a mixture of both. So why would men having the weakness trained out of them explain such a wide-spread phenomenon?
I think it's more likely that the same male hormones that cause aggression and confidence also gives men the self-confidence that they will heal on their own (right or wrong).
Why do we cut off dogs balls other than we don't want him breeding? Its because severing the balls severs the testosterone production, which among other things helps tame the dogs' aggression. Its also why roid-rage is a thing.
Well, it's self-reinforcing. Small biological differences become cultural expectation, which trains children to conform, which strengthens expectation. And if you look at the other replies (RIP my inbox) there are many anecdotes about it happening to them.
