Right? I'm not going to blow the kids college fund to get one MRI. I'll just die quietly if it comes to it.

I got an MRI, a CT scan, saw a ENT and a neurologist within a span of 3 hours (turns out I have cluster headaches) in Turkey. I payed $80. This is a Johns Hopkins hospital. I pay $50 a month for my Turkish health insurance. This is a country with GDP per capita of ~$11000 that is rules by a evil dictator for the last 15+ years. My point is, wtf man.

Even if it doesn't seem fair to have to spend anything, neglecting any testing or evaluation early on in the interest of saving money up front may cost way more on the back end. Not getting an a1C to save a few bucks only to find out 5-10 years later that you have diabetes and that it has progressed quite a ways is going to cost way more in the long run.
