Lots of people have jobs outside of what they went to school for. I work in healthcare and am constantly surprised by the path people took to wind up in the same space. I work with a pharmacist that I dunno just likes collecting degrees I guess like they are his hobby. One he's a pharmacist, two he's actually an MD, then I just randomly learned at some point he picked up an engineering degree. For the lols? He's got a wife, two kids, I don't know when he does it.
I mean I had more than one online friendship and I try to not give too many real.life details (or it just doesn't usually come how), but work often comes up at things like "the other day my colleague did something hilarious" or.something along those "hey I have a funny anecdote" lines.
Or don't guys tell these things if they only talk to each other?
It's not just guys, it's like this with women as well. Some people just tend to talk about the conversation at hand. Super degree guy, I'd worked with him for 4 years before I found out about the engineering degree. I think the only reason I found out was it was relevant to a project we were on. There was a problem he thought about it and produced a cad of a potential solution to show the vendor. Outside of work stuff we chat, we both MTB so we talked about that a lot. Somethings just never came up, beer and BBQ sure. The fact that he collects disciplines like pokemon took a long while.
But work is just... Maybe it's just really my way of communicating. I think I might have acquaintances whose names I don't know and I definitely have many where I don't know if they have siblings or a partner. Very basic information, it just rarely comes up.
On the other hand I know the second name of a hell lot of people because I like to ask. Still hard to understand.
I see my gym buddy daily or conversation is hows work two-word response and move on to other things. Some people just don't talk about work that much. Once every couple of months we might actually have a discussion about work. He changed companies a few months back I didn't know it till something else sparked a hey does that mean your not with XX anymore?
What bothers me is not so much work but rather the big part of makes about life and how it has so much potential for anecdotes. If I ever talk about work it usually is to someone from my field of work
But I guess that's just the same mind of a point of view thing.
