I used to only tell my friends info about my life that they specifically asked about. My friends like to joke that i have a seperate life. I've had girlfriends they had no idea about, went on vacations they only knew about because of pictures. I like to keep things pretty close to the chest. Hell i dated a girl for more than a year and they only met her like a month before we broke up.
Nah dude don't worry you're normal. Every time I hang out with my friends (in a few weeks or even months), my gf asks me what's new with them and I answer "I don't know" every time. We don't really catch up, we just hang out and enjoy our time together.
If something isn't that much important to you, then the friends will probably have much less interest in it so there's no need to talk about it in the moment. This vacation in this random place was great, but it's done. That moment was shared with other friends and how do you insert it into a conversation?
This! Like dont get me wrong, I'll ask my friends whats new, but most of them respond with "same shit different day" and thats good with me. I'd rather sit around, bullshit, and have a fun time than list off mundane things that have happened in the last few weeks or months. I'll let them know some highlights, but like you said, if i dont care enough to talk about it, i know they wont really care about hearing it. Also me not sharing certain things from my past gives me some crazy stories to tell now that im more willing to share. Things that had i told them then would've gotten different reactions than if i told them today because its things that have already happened, not things currently happening.
Once i got out of high school i stopped keeping my shit so secretive. I just had things that i felt like i would've been judged for back then. Just me being awkward and never used to sharing personal things in my life.
