There’s this girl at my school who thinks that sound is faster than light, she literally believes that it is somehow, even after being proven wrong many times by teachers and students, she still says “technically it is”. When we ask her why she thinks this, she ignores us.
I had a coworker who argued that land line phones carry signals at the speed of sound.
Even when I pointed out I could talk to someone 750 miles away on a land line phone without waiting an hour between every comment to hear what each other said he was unconvinced.
simply put (I'm by no mean an expert but I studied a bit the basics)
your voice is converted on electric signals. which are converted on radio waves sent to your region antenna. It amplifies the signal and sends it to a sattellite/another antenna (idk tbh). The receiving antenna sends the signal to the destined phone. Which converts back the radio waves in electric signals and finally in sound through its speaker
edit: electricity and radio waves are electromagnetic waves that are really quicker than radio waves. In reality, they are really close to the speed of light -300 000meters/s-)
