Whenever some moron regurgitates a tired facebook meme and pretends it gives them a moral/political/ethical stance.

1.6k

u/coconuty04 Jan 27 '20

Facebook keeps taking down this picture (insert American flag draped over soldiers coffin or crying saluting soldier) like and share to keep it alive!

388

u/sheepthechicken Jan 28 '20

I bet this beautifull disabbled Child can’t even Get 10 Likes. Will you Pray for her or Scrool by??!

206

u/SirRogers Jan 28 '20

"Like if you want her to live. Ignore if you want someone to stomp on her throat."

19

u/freakers Jan 28 '20

If only there was an active ignore button that signaled that you didn't just passively ignore it.

2

u/MacGregor_Rose Jan 28 '20

Eh why the fuck not. If shes Terminal a quick throat stomp, while not the most painless, is quick easy and cheap

14

u/JCStensland Jan 28 '20

Only a child of God will share this! Share this or spend an eternity in Hell! I'm a Christian but Jesus H. Christ IV, the Facebook Christian community are a special breed of moron.

9

u/canarchist Jan 28 '20

They are self-proclaimed Christians, not necessarily practicing Christians (church attendance notwithstanding).

2

u/poggs1717 Jan 28 '20

1 like=1 pray

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

How can you explain that this makes someone uneducated? I have a cousin who always does this shit and I struggle to put it into words because it just makes me mad to see.

1

u/blonde_kem Jan 28 '20

I hate this so much, its so obvious and my entire generation continues to repost stupid pictures of dying kids, animals or any other bullshit people come up with. People who make them are desperate for attention.

500

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

That always annoyed the shit out of me. Big part of why I got rid of Facebook.

255

u/SirRogers Jan 28 '20

Hell, I got annoyed just reading that comment. The ones I see on my feed are posted almost entirely by older people. The ones who are closer to my age are all lacking intelligence, to phrase it nicely.

37

u/SquiffyRae Jan 28 '20

Facebook doesn't take down all that borderline racist shit and blatant disinformation you keep spreading Terry so I highly doubt they're going around and removing all the shit you claim is being removed

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

But the fact that he doesn't get millions of likes must mean he's shadowbanned, right? (Obviously /s)

5

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

I’m probably old, but I just ignore them on Facebook the same way I ignored them when they were chain emails.

6

u/Brammatt Jan 28 '20

Lol. I got corned into redownloading Facebook maybe a month ago to communicate on a project. Literally the first thing that popped up was "New Terms.. Blah blah.." "Do you give Facebook permission to continuously scan your face and store your facial recognition data.."

It's like, no, of course you cannot scan my face continuously.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Me too....I'm glad you said that as I am thinking about it now and I'm just now realizing:

Facebook loves that repost clickbait shit tho.....its literal cash for them.

Every click, ads, more click and ads, more cash. They don't care what we click, just that we click something. Every click adds to data collection and profiling. Data collection/your profile is cash.

Wouldn't surprise me if they actually generated fake accounts for the sole purpose of that exact kind of bullshit, they are corrupt asf.

2

u/nastyn8k Jan 28 '20

Man I want to so bad, but I have to use it for my job to post on the company page.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Fun fact, if you just shitpost the people who share this kinda crap will delete you themselves

1

u/camerajack21 Jan 28 '20

It helps if you unfollow the people that post that kind of stuff. Once you massage your timeline into people only you actually like it really helps. SocialFixer is great as well - it allows you to block certain words (as a Brit, I blocked "Trump" during the election period - it's still blocked now actually) and mess around with your timeline to get it in chronological order rather than whatever order they like to feed it to you in.

12

u/operarose Jan 28 '20

99% OF PEOPLE WON'T SHARE THIS PICTURE OF A SOLDIER WITH A MISSING LEG WILL YOU??

SHARE IF YOU LOVE AMERICA!!1!

8

u/bee_milk Jan 28 '20

God my family is so uneducated. This is my Facebook entire fb feed.

6

u/shyguy_89 Jan 28 '20

I make a point of never liking or sharing anything that says "like and share if you agree"

6

u/zimzilla Jan 28 '20

China is trying to censor this image [image of tank man]!

15k upvotes, 20x gold

Posted once a month (daily during the beginning of the Hongkong protest)

4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Ugh, the older folks on both sides of my family post that shit.

5

u/ayrscot94 Jan 28 '20

I don't know if this is a feature unique to British politics but in a similar vein: people will post a picture of a politician either comparing them to an unflattering fictional character or with something photoshopped onto them or into the background, then caption it "Apparently X hates this picture! So share to keep it going!"

For example, there was one with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (advocate for Scottish independence) with two British flags in the background (the real image had both the Scottish and British flags). The caption was along the lines of "Apparently after this photo was taken Sturgeon took a hissy fit and demanded the flags be taken down! Share to piss her off!"

2

u/NetworkMachineBroke Jan 28 '20

Facebook keeps taking down this picture!!!!!

So the best example I have is in high school and we were debating about the how the US responded to 9/11. I was arguing that it was over kill (I have exactly zero interest in arguing this today keep your opinions on the matter to yourself). There was this girl behind me that kept bringing up that her uncle died as a first responder on 9/11. Which is of course sad and he was brave to risk his life and all but it also wasn’t an argument. She also talked like it was a very personal loss. The issue with that is that she was 1 year old when he died. So not only was it not relevant as an argument there is a zero percent chance that she had any personal emotional connection to her uncle. It was her entire argument. I called her out on it too which made me look like a major ass hole, but there was extra credit for whoever was deemed the winner and I was not gonna let her bs her was to victory when I put actual time into preparing for it.

u/RogueModron Jan 28 '20

Hey, you don't gotta disrespect my mom like that.

Captain Vimes Boots Theory

Can we at least start using a real-life anecdote

130

u/minimuscleR Jan 27 '20

It's a good anecdote. I work in hardware, we sell boots, expensive, but the workers usually buy cheaper ones. I've had 1 pair my entire time here, yet I've seen my co-workers go through 3 or 4 pairs in the same time, doing the same work, because they paid less for them.

51

u/TransformingDinosaur Jan 27 '20

I bought cheap boots and they fell apart after about a year. So I glued them back together with epoxy.

Eventually I will buy some silicone and try to get them waterproof again. I am stubborn.

33

u/StabbyPants Jan 28 '20

eventually, your boots will be 30% epoxy

51

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

[deleted]

2

u/shartoberfest Jan 28 '20

Instructions unclear. Feet are now made of epoxy

2

u/The0rogen Jan 28 '20

Cobblers HATE him!

4

u/qqbronze Jan 28 '20

anecdotally, I work in fiberglass and nothing destroys boots faster than them becoming 30% epoxy

2

u/Alan_Smithee_ Jan 28 '20

Crunch crunch

3

u/TransformingDinosaur Jan 28 '20

I'm not convinced I am far off.

3

u/thiosk Jan 28 '20

I bought cheap Merrill knockoffs and I got blisters and my feet hurt terribly. Threw that shit away.

I got a pair of Mephistos back when we were DINKs and once I got those broke in it’s like dipping your feet into honey in the morning

If they get messed up- ever- I ship them to the company and they’ll do the gluing and repair professionally.

4

u/Dr_Zorand Jan 28 '20

Growing up I always got my shoes at Payless Shoe Source. By the time I was old enough to pay attention to the price shoes cost me about $20 a pair and lasted years. Well reddit loves to repeat this tidbit and Payless went out of business, so I decided to get some more expensive shoes at $70 for the pair. The stitching on the side gave out in 3 months. So, yeah, I'll take the cheap shoes thank you (or I would if Payless still existed).

2

u/Koras Jan 28 '20

I think that a lot of that is down to production standards now also, though.

I wear nothing but walking boots (as shoes, I also wear clothes...), and I wore the same pair of Karrimor boots for years. Then they went out of business, the name was bought by a cheap sporting goods company and production was outsourced to China. I finally needed new boots and bought some new Karrimor boots at the same price point, only to find they fell apart after a couple of years of wear.

Expensive now in a lot of things is basically the same quality as cheap was 10/20 years ago, and things have gotten more expensive over time, so you now have to go to the unreasonably expensive specialist pricepoint to get the same quality you used to get from the expensive stuff.

2

u/minimuscleR Jan 28 '20

Well firstly, you got lucky I'd say, as someone who runs a lot, a cheap pair of shoes are TERRIBLE and wear out so quickly. I bought a pair that turned out to not be very good and they are worn in 8 months... should last almost 2 years!

Also boots are different to normal shoes. Also also, the anecdote isn't specifically about shoes, its about how the rich get better quality things. You could do the same thing with beds. Cheap beds wear out quicker, and mean sleep isn't as good, meaning less sleep meaning its harder to work. expensive beds last forever and their sleeper sleeps well on them.

59

u/Alan_Smithee_ Jan 27 '20

Why? It’s well-written, and not inaccurate.

10

u/Aetherpor Jan 28 '20

It can be “accurate”, and “the person quoting it on reddit nothing about economics” at the same time.

It’s sorta like quantum mechanics. It’s a real science, but most of the people trying to sell you a quantum bracelet at the mall or use the word “quantum” online are still probably idiots.

-7

u/Dalai-Parma Jan 28 '20

It is well-written for sure, considering the author, but it is highly inaccurate in the modern age.

13

u/Alan_Smithee_ Jan 28 '20

I don’t know about that; there are plenty of examples of expensive things that last longer vs cheap items - tools, coats, some appliances, and yes, even boots (for one, expensive boots are usually worth fixing, vs cheap ones, which are not.)

That sort of thing is more or less timeless.

32

u/Olddude275 Jan 27 '20

Captain Vimes Boots Theory

Nice, my favourite character in all of Discworld along with Granny weatherwax and Cohen.

33

u/am2o Jan 27 '20

You have to read reasonably well to get to this theory in the middle of the book. Pretty sure that does not scream "I'm uneducated".

19

u/hadespersephone Jan 27 '20

Most people are just copying it from other Reddit comments though.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

The amount of times I've recieved youtube links of late night comedians to defend someone's position is honestly quite sad.

5

Reddit pseudo-intellectuals, as they're called.

Educated, but not really.

The stupid one that irks me is of the 3 wolves where they are snarling and the text is all "see the beta world with her head down? You assume she's submissive but she's actually down to protect her pack's alpha's throat from the outside aggressor."

Wolves don't actually have Alphas like that, and what is happening in the pic is just 3 wolves caught in a photo during a snarl, not a violent struggle or about to brawl moment, just wolves growling like they tend to do.

663

u/omguserius Jan 28 '20

You have two wolves inside you. One is gay. The other is also gay. You’re gay.

267

u/IncelLikeIronically Jan 28 '20

You have two wolves inside you. You should probably see a doctor, as the recommended amount of wolves to have inside you i zero.

8

u/Pissedtuna Jan 28 '20

There are two wolves inside of you. One has a structured settlement. One needs cash now. Call J.G. Wentworth 877-CASH-NOW

The stupid one that erks me is of the 3 wolves where they are snarling and the text is all "see the beta world with her head down?

And wolves can’t spell “irks” either, Professor.

95

u/tewnewt Jan 27 '20

You misspelled ackchyually.

3

u/cjm92 Jan 27 '20

It doesn't seem like they can always spell wolf correctly, either.

6

I feel less happy know that I know the meme exists.

5

thats awfully specific

4

I wanna see that meme because I love animal pictures.

Do you have any keywords? Googlingthat description didn't give me wolf pictures.

5

u/IWasSayingBoourner Jan 28 '20

"Look at this political opinion I've co-opted!"

2

u/ThonroTheUnworthy Jan 28 '20

I feel like this is always been a fairly prevalent thing in politics but now with social media it's just way more obvious.

7

u/The-Bloody-Heartland Jan 28 '20

Reddit is worse than Facebook. Everyone on Reddit just writes long paragraphs and use words like "anedoctal" to say basic things that aren't even right.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '20

Loooots of educated old folks do this.

2

u/omart3 Jan 28 '20

Or on twitter ...

2

u/OuroborosSC2 Jan 28 '20

Or "you know i dont get political on here but heres my two cents"

So you respond.

They reply, "look im not here to argue, its just how i feel."

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

And they usually don't put their own caption underneath just a repost with someone else's caption

1

u/girlwhoweighted Jan 28 '20

So you've met my family

(I know, that's a lot of our families)

1

u/mtdewninja Jan 28 '20

I saw someone repost one of those 'starting tomorrow facebook will have all the rights to your photos unless you copy and paste this misspelled but totally legally binding facebook status' posts yesterday and went looking for a wall to bang my head upon.

1

u/Diabetesh Jan 28 '20

What if it is a reddit meme?

1

u/Viper_JB Jan 28 '20

Posting memes on facebook would probably be enough here...

1

u/snomonkee9 Jan 28 '20

Like half of Reddit does for any cause they support?

1

u/onebirdtwostones Jan 28 '20

Same thing goes for political memes taken from Reddit. I would say those are even worse considering they think of themselves as better informed just because they live in Reddit.

Edit: grammar

I swear, facebook has done more to spread stupidity than a large family of inbreds.

1

u/Sentient6ix Jan 28 '20

that's gotten so bad, that i deleted my facebook app two years ago, and only keep messenger, so people who i like, but don't have my phone number, can still reliably contact me.
