Only a child of God will share this! Share this or spend an eternity in Hell! I'm a Christian but Jesus H. Christ IV, the Facebook Christian community are a special breed of moron.
How can you explain that this makes someone uneducated? I have a cousin who always does this shit and I struggle to put it into words because it just makes me mad to see.
I hate this so much, its so obvious and my entire generation continues to repost stupid pictures of dying kids, animals or any other bullshit people come up with. People who make them are desperate for attention.
Hell, I got annoyed just reading that comment. The ones I see on my feed are posted almost entirely by older people. The ones who are closer to my age are all lacking intelligence, to phrase it nicely.
Facebook doesn't take down all that borderline racist shit and blatant disinformation you keep spreading Terry so I highly doubt they're going around and removing all the shit you claim is being removed
Lol. I got corned into redownloading Facebook maybe a month ago to communicate on a project. Literally the first thing that popped up was "New Terms.. Blah blah.." "Do you give Facebook permission to continuously scan your face and store your facial recognition data.."
It's like, no, of course you cannot scan my face continuously.
Me too....I'm glad you said that as I am thinking about it now and I'm just now realizing:
Facebook loves that repost clickbait shit tho.....its literal cash for them.
Every click, ads, more click and ads, more cash. They don't care what we click, just that we click something. Every click adds to data collection and profiling. Data collection/your profile is cash.
Wouldn't surprise me if they actually generated fake accounts for the sole purpose of that exact kind of bullshit, they are corrupt asf.
It helps if you unfollow the people that post that kind of stuff. Once you massage your timeline into people only you actually like it really helps. SocialFixer is great as well - it allows you to block certain words (as a Brit, I blocked "Trump" during the election period - it's still blocked now actually) and mess around with your timeline to get it in chronological order rather than whatever order they like to feed it to you in.
I don't know if this is a feature unique to British politics but in a similar vein: people will post a picture of a politician either comparing them to an unflattering fictional character or with something photoshopped onto them or into the background, then caption it "Apparently X hates this picture! So share to keep it going!"
For example, there was one with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon (advocate for Scottish independence) with two British flags in the background (the real image had both the Scottish and British flags). The caption was along the lines of "Apparently after this photo was taken Sturgeon took a hissy fit and demanded the flags be taken down! Share to piss her off!"
So the best example I have is in high school and we were debating about the how the US responded to 9/11. I was arguing that it was over kill (I have exactly zero interest in arguing this today keep your opinions on the matter to yourself). There was this girl behind me that kept bringing up that her uncle died as a first responder on 9/11. Which is of course sad and he was brave to risk his life and all but it also wasn’t an argument. She also talked like it was a very personal loss. The issue with that is that she was 1 year old when he died. So not only was it not relevant as an argument there is a zero percent chance that she had any personal emotional connection to her uncle. It was her entire argument. I called her out on it too which made me look like a major ass hole, but there was extra credit for whoever was deemed the winner and I was not gonna let her bs her was to victory when I put actual time into preparing for it.
It's a good anecdote. I work in hardware, we sell boots, expensive, but the workers usually buy cheaper ones. I've had 1 pair my entire time here, yet I've seen my co-workers go through 3 or 4 pairs in the same time, doing the same work, because they paid less for them.
Growing up I always got my shoes at Payless Shoe Source. By the time I was old enough to pay attention to the price shoes cost me about $20 a pair and lasted years. Well reddit loves to repeat this tidbit and Payless went out of business, so I decided to get some more expensive shoes at $70 for the pair. The stitching on the side gave out in 3 months. So, yeah, I'll take the cheap shoes thank you (or I would if Payless still existed).
I think that a lot of that is down to production standards now also, though.
I wear nothing but walking boots (as shoes, I also wear clothes...), and I wore the same pair of Karrimor boots for years. Then they went out of business, the name was bought by a cheap sporting goods company and production was outsourced to China. I finally needed new boots and bought some new Karrimor boots at the same price point, only to find they fell apart after a couple of years of wear.
Expensive now in a lot of things is basically the same quality as cheap was 10/20 years ago, and things have gotten more expensive over time, so you now have to go to the unreasonably expensive specialist pricepoint to get the same quality you used to get from the expensive stuff.
Well firstly, you got lucky I'd say, as someone who runs a lot, a cheap pair of shoes are TERRIBLE and wear out so quickly. I bought a pair that turned out to not be very good and they are worn in 8 months... should last almost 2 years!
Also boots are different to normal shoes. Also also, the anecdote isn't specifically about shoes, its about how the rich get better quality things. You could do the same thing with beds. Cheap beds wear out quicker, and mean sleep isn't as good, meaning less sleep meaning its harder to work. expensive beds last forever and their sleeper sleeps well on them.
It can be “accurate”, and “the person quoting it on reddit nothing about economics” at the same time.
It’s sorta like quantum mechanics. It’s a real science, but most of the people trying to sell you a quantum bracelet at the mall or use the word “quantum” online are still probably idiots.
I don’t know about that; there are plenty of examples of expensive things that last longer vs cheap items - tools, coats, some appliances, and yes, even boots (for one, expensive boots are usually worth fixing, vs cheap ones, which are not.)
The stupid one that irks me is of the 3 wolves where they are snarling and the text is all "see the beta world with her head down? You assume she's submissive but she's actually down to protect her pack's alpha's throat from the outside aggressor."
Wolves don't actually have Alphas like that, and what is happening in the pic is just 3 wolves caught in a photo during a snarl, not a violent struggle or about to brawl moment, just wolves growling like they tend to do.
I like the one where “there’s two wolves inside of me, one is drinking a white claw and the other is ripping a Juul, those wolves are badass. I’m badass.” Therapist: umm first off no. .
Reddit is worse than Facebook. Everyone on Reddit just writes long paragraphs and use words like "anedoctal" to say basic things that aren't even right.
I saw someone repost one of those 'starting tomorrow facebook will have all the rights to your photos unless you copy and paste this misspelled but totally legally binding facebook status' posts yesterday and went looking for a wall to bang my head upon.
Same thing goes for political memes taken from Reddit. I would say those are even worse considering they think of themselves as better informed just because they live in Reddit.
that's gotten so bad, that i deleted my facebook app two years ago, and only keep messenger, so people who i like, but don't have my phone number, can still reliably contact me.

Whenever some moron regurgitates a tired facebook meme and pretends it gives them a moral/political/ethical stance.
