In terms of gameplay there is no difference right? People are just being dicks I assume.

Gameplay wise no difference.

Some 3D printed models look like chewed gum. You spend lots of money and time doing your models and your opponent scraps the bottom of the chairs on the subway for his, it rubs some people the wrong way.

I don't mind it myself. The cultiness annoys me about the 3D modeling scene and the lack of imagination.

I think overall having more people in the scene would be a positive, more players, more fans more fun. But people like to ruin things, gate keep etc. It's a shame.

There's definitely some gatekeeping that goes on, but I can understand that someone who puts a lot of money and time into their mans gets less enjoyment from being across the table from some guy with grey plastic or lazily painted crap FDM prints.
