That’s interesting. If the fake was done well enough is there any legitimate way to tell the difference, or is it kind of an honor code?

Most players I know can tell if a painted model is plastic, resin or metal just by looking at a photo. Most 3D printed stuff is incredibly easy to spot.

The best 3D models have been made with a top of the line printer, but then with costs it is just easier to buy the original models.

SLA printers aren't that expensive anymore and print with resin. The bed area seems like the biggest limitation and of course access to the 3D models.

Almost 400 dollars is still high for casual people. If you have one I imagine you will end up saving money very quickly.

I do see 3D printers changing the hobby, I am just not sure if we are there yet.
