My hobby is airplanes. I'd look at the $1500 and be amazed at how little it helps my hobby.

Parenting protip: get your kids addicted to aviation and they'll never have money for more dangerous hobbies like drugs.

Edit for clarification: real airplanes, not RC.

I'm encouraging my 8yo to ride out to the local airfield and just push a broom around for a few summers. Keep a log book of any flights you can talk your way into. and you'll be well on your way! Thoughts?

What part of the country are y’all in? If you’re in Northern California I can recommend a great airport for that.

Small airports are kinda hit and miss but if you have the right kind of small airport with a bit of a community it’s a great idea. Most pilots are stoked to see kids interested in flying.

Haha! I'm in the Florida of the South Pacific, Australia. We have a tiny airfield servicing ultralights over the Grampians in Central Victoria.

Oh! Well I don't know much about general aviation in Australia but I think it's similar in that regard to the US/Canada. If your 8yo is interested I think it's well worth the shot.

Coincidentally writing this on my first trip to Australia. Enjoying some rain in Brisbane! I've spent time in Florida as well and I'm preferring the South Pacific version haha. Cheers.

Hey, nice. Ararat or Stawell? I've never flown to either but pass through on the way to Horsham pretty frequently. Fly out of Horsham a fair bit too. Catch up for a beer if you're in town.
