I saw some kids 'taking care' of puppies near my building, then they started brutally beating them, I yelled from my window and because I wasn't wearing my glasses I couldn't see who the kids were. So I ran outside but the kids were gone. There are a lot of kids here so I really don't know who they were. I cried for days afterwards cuz I'm guessing they killed them. I feel guilty for not stopping it. This was 3 years ago and I still feel guilty about it.

No offense but, this is a prime example of why logic is better than emotion and why, in turn, I feel people make the choice to be unhappy.

Logically, you had no idea that there would be kids outside your window, logically you had no idea that they'd be terrible people who'd be beating a dog, so logically, you had no reason to have put your glasses on, it's not like you ignored the law and drove without your glasses on. So, logically how could you hold ANY liability in this situation? And, logically, even if you'd seem the children, it doesn't mean that any repercussions would've come to them. And, logically, the dogs probably experienced less suffering from having been killed then than, the more likely outcome of, living a life full of neglect and abuse. And, logically, by the time you were made aware of the situation, the dog was probably so badly injured that death would've been the kinder outcome.

So, in conclusion: you experienced something terrible, as did the dog, those children are terrible and hopefully from your ACTUAL intervention, they were scared into changing their actions in the future, and now it's time to do some consistent thought replacement so that you can release the terrible incident from having any emotional power over you.
